Not loving this book because I haven't learned a lot of new things yet. BUT this is a great paragraph! I love doing research for my job, but I can't wait to start the next book ( aka, this book to be done).

Did you know: The earlier in the pregnancy you book your Doula, the better? She can provide more information, spend more time getting know you, and have a better understanding of your pregnancy the earlier you book her. More help and more prep time could mean better outcomes!

When the doula is sitting/ doing nothing she is:
Letting the rhythm flow- You are in touch with your rhythm, maybe you and your partner are riding things out really well at this moment. I don't need to step in to interrupt at this time.
Analyzing the birth space- Am I utilizing all that I can to help? Is there something about the environment that should change? Is this conducive to the kind of birth you want?
Letting partner be helpful- Maybe your partner wants to step in to feel helpful, you don't need two people physically by you at this moment, your partner is working alone well.
Encouraging rest- I can see that rest is what you need at the moment, and that cant happen with me right there. I am allowing you to take a break from words and constant contact.

Just because the doula seems to be "doing nothing" doesn't mean she isn't working! Being in your face the entire labor isn't productive and we know this.

Did you know lots of babies are born at night because of the melatonin that is released when it gets dark? It synergizes with the oxytocin helping the labor along! That's why (among the other obvious reasons) people advise you to sleep if you are in early labor, it can help get the labor hormones flowing!
