Minimize Trauma~
The trauma of being abused is more than any child deserves. Butterfly Bridge CAC exists to minimize that trauma and help rebuild little lives shattered by abuse. Butterfly Bridge, Children’s Advocacy Center offers a non-threatening environment where a multidisciplinary team works together to minimize any further trauma during the justice and restoration process. One Time, One Place~
Instead of having to be interviewed multiple times by different agencies and attorneys, children are able to tell their story once, and the information is then shared among appropriate parties. As the process moves along, the child may receive counseling and other services in this same, non-threatening, nourishing environment.

🧸 Behind the Wings | National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day 🧸

Today we’re celebrating National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day — and at Butterfly Bridge CAC, we know just how special a stuffed animal can be.

When children come to our office for the first time, it’s often for a forensic interview due to allegations of abuse. After their interview, each child gets to choose a stuffed animal or blanket to take home.

These teddy bears and blankets are always here, ready to offer comfort, safety, and care during what can be a very difficult time. 💛
So while we didn’t have to bring our teddy bears to work today, we’re thankful they’re always here — helping bring a little bit of hope and healing to the children we serve.

Our 4th Quarter Statistics are more than just numbers — they represent children whose voices were heard, families who received support, and hope that continues to grow through our community’s care and compassion. 💙

In Elmore County we provided a total of 421 services during the 4th Quarter.

Every service provided and every child served is a reminder of why we do what we do. Thank you for helping us make a difference.

Myth vs. Fact: Why Children Don’t Always Tell Right Away

❌MYTH: If a child doesn’t tell right away, they must be lying.
✅ FACT: Most children delay disclosure of abuse — sometimes for months or even years.

Children may stay silent because they’re scared, confused, or trying to protect someone they love.

When they do tell, it’s often after they feel safe and supported.
Your response matters. Believe them, support them, and know that healing starts with being heard. 💙

Mental health affects everyone. While one in five U.S. adults experiences a mental health condition annually, the impact extends to the friends, family, coworkers, and others who support them. Mental health is something we all experience, manage, and need support with. No one should have to face these challenges alone.

Recognizing the need to raise awareness and address mental health challenges, Congress officially established the first full week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in 1990, thanks to NAMI’s advocacy. Since then, communities across the country have come together annually to raise awareness, fight stigma, and support mental health.

💛 It’s okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes. 💛

At Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center, we understand that children — just like adults — can experience big emotions that they don’t always know how to express. Helping children recognize and share their feelings is an important step in supporting their mental health and overall well-being.

✨ Ways we can support children every day:
-Listen with patience and without judgment.
-Create safe spaces where feelings can be expressed freely.
-Encourage healthy coping strategies and provide guidance when needed.

Mental health matters year-round, and together we can help children feel seen, heard, and supported. 💙

A huge thank you to on of our Blue Ribbon Ambassadors, Chris with SERVPRO of Prattville ! 💙🧡

They generously donated soft drinks for the families and children we serve in our Autauga County office. Small acts of kindness like this help us care for our clients in meaningful ways — offering comfort during some of their most difficult moments.

We’re so grateful for community partners who stand behind the wings with us!

🌟 A very special thank you to Evie Smith 💜

Evie, Miss Vestavia Hills, an Auburn University student, and an advocate for children of trauma, joined us at our Annual MDT Training to share her powerful testimony.

As a child sexual abuse survivor, her courage and voice inspire us and remind us why this work matters so deeply. Through her non-profit organization, A.C.T. (Advocating for Children of Trauma), Evie is the official State Ambassador for the Alabama Network of Children's Advocacy Centers (ANCAC). She leads with courage to bring awareness and action to such a worthy cause.

Not only did she share her story, but she also donated several of her Jaggy stuffed animals 🐆💜 — a stuffed animal created to bring comfort, hope, and healing to children we serve.
We are so grateful for your generosity, strength, and advocacy, Evie. 💛
