Minimize Trauma~
The trauma of being abused is more than any child deserves. Butterfly Bridge CAC exists to minimize that trauma and help rebuild little lives shattered by abuse. Butterfly Bridge, Children’s Advocacy Center offers a non-threatening environment where a multidisciplinary team works together to minimize any further trauma during the justice and restoration process. One Time, One Place~
Instead of having to be interviewed multiple times by different agencies and attorneys, children are able to tell their story once, and the information is then shared among appropriate parties. As the process moves along, the child may receive counseling and other services in this same, non-threatening, nourishing environment.

What’s one protective factor you had growing up or one you try to provide now?

Sometimes protection looks like a grandparent who shows up.
A neighbor who checks in.
A coach who listens.

Strong social connections reduce stress and create safer environments for children.

🦋 Behind the Wings 🦋

Recently in Elmore County, our team had the opportunity to support children attending Grand Jury in a meaningful way. Our Family Advocate, Alicia, prepared thoughtful coping bags to help provide comfort during what can be a difficult experience.

Zurg, our facility dog, was also there—offering calm, reassurance, and unconditional support.

Behind the scenes, it’s moments like these that reflect our commitment to walking alongside children and families with care, compassion, and hope. 💙

Help us thank our newest Light Keeper!
At Butterfly Bridge CAC, we believe that knowledge is power, and Child Abuse prevention is possible!

Our Light Keepers are the incredible community members, leaders, and partners who step up, take part in our trainings, and commit to being part of the solution. These individuals are helping bring light to the darkness by learning how to recognize, prevent, and respond to child abuse in meaningful ways.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who attends our trainings. Your dedication is not only inspiring. it’s life-changing. With the right education and awareness, we can interrupt and prevent most instances of child abuse before they happen. Together, we are building a safer, more informed community for every child.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone at Prattville who attended our recent Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children® training, facilitated by our very own Anna Sanders from BBCAC.
Thank you for being a Light Keeper.

💙 Active Parenting Helps Prevent Child Abuse💙

At Butterfly Bridge, we believe prevention starts with education, encouragement, and support.

Active Parenting gives parents tools to:
✔ Communicate with empathy
✔ Foster independence and mutual respect
✔ Encourage positive behavior
✔ Use **non-violent discipline**
✔ Build healthier, more connected families

When parents feel confident and supported, children are safer.

🚨 Understanding Child Abuse
According to the CDC, child abuse can take many forms:

• Emotional abuse– shaming, name-calling, rejecting, or withholding love
• Neglect– failing to meet a child’s physical *or* emotional needs
• Sexual abuse– exposing or forcing a child into sexual activity
• Physical abuse – hitting, shaking, burning, or using force that causes harm

📊 The reality is heartbreaking
• 1 in 7 children experienced abuse or neglect last year
• 90% of abuse is committed by someone the child knows
• 68% of victims are abused by a family member

🧠 Why Parenting Education Matters
Stress, unresolved trauma, lack of parenting skills, and unrealistic expectations can increase the risk of abuse.
The CDC identifies **strong parenting skills** as one of the most effective ways to prevent child abuse.

🌱 How Active Parenting Helps
• Teaches non-violent discipline (logical consequences, problem-solving, “I” messages)
• Encourages connection over control
• Promotes empathy and emotional understanding
• Builds confidence, courage, and self-esteem in both parents and children

As educator Rudolf Dreikurs said:

"Children need encouragement like plants need water.”

💙 Prevention is possible. Healing is possible. Support matters.
Butterfly Bridge is committed to protecting children, strengthening families, and breaking cycles of abuse through advocacy, education, and compassionate care.
