🌱☀️ The beautiful weather has our Memory Care residents spending plenty of time outdoors!

This week, residents rolled up their sleeves and got to work planting the raised garden beds and decorating the patio area. The gardens are filled with summertime favorites including tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers. 🍅🥒

Gardening is a wonderful way to enjoy the fresh air, stay active, and take pride in watching something grow. We can't wait to see these gardens flourish throughout the season!

Our residents kicked off Memorial Day weekend with a wonderful cookout lunch filled with great food, patriotic spirit, and even better company! 🇺🇸

The menu featured ribs, burgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, and plenty of delicious sides for everyone to enjoy. Red, white, and blue decorations filled the dining room as residents gathered together to celebrate the holiday weekend and honor the meaning behind Memorial Day.

It was a fun and festive afternoon at Ashton Commons, shared with friends, good conversation, and lots of smiles. ❤️🤍💙

Residents at Ashton Commons recently enjoyed a creative afternoon during art class as they learned about Pablo Picasso and his unique use of Cubism. Inspired by Picasso’s style, each resident used their imagination and creativity to design their own abstract portrait using bold shapes, colors, and different perspectives.

The room was filled with laughter, conversation, and artistic expression as everyone brought their creations to life. One of the best parts of the afternoon was at the end, when residents proudly shared and even named the faces they had created. 😊

Activities like these encourage creativity, self-expression, social connection, and meaningful engagement — all while having fun together.

Last Tuesday evening, residents at Ashton Commons were treated to a spectacular performance by Ring Pittsburgh! 🔔🎶

Founded in 2016, Ring Pittsburgh is an auditioned community ensemble dedicated to advancing the art of handbell ringing through beautiful, professional concert performances. Residents enjoyed an incredible evening of music as the talented musicians performed with an impressive collection of handbells and handchimes, filling the room with energy, artistry, and joy.

🌸 We had the most beautiful evening this week as we gathered to honor the incredible mothers in our community with a special Mother’s Day Dinner! It was a night filled with much laughter and wonderful quality time spent together.

Our culinary team truly outdid themselves with a fantastic buffet! 🍽️ Residents and guests enjoyed:

Savory Favorites: Lamb lollipops, crab cakes, and delicious Boursin chicken.

Fresh Sides: A vibrant variety of seasonal vegetables.

Sweet Endings: A decadent chocolate fountain and refreshing strawberry tiramisu for dessert!

The atmosphere was made even more special by the talented strolling violinist, Steven Vance Entertainment, who played favorite tunes and took individual requests throughout the evening. 🎻 As a token of our appreciation, each mom was presented with a pretty pink carnation and wished a very Happy Mother’s Day.

It was truly a special evening, enjoyed by all who attended. Thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration so heart-warming!

At Ashton Commons, our Balance Class is helping residents build strength, improve mobility, and reduce the risk of falls—all in a safe, supportive environment. Led by Troy Slavin of Powerback, who brings over 35 years of experience working with seniors, this class focuses on coordination, flexibility, and confidence in everyday movement.
Balance training isn’t just about physical health—it also engages the mind, supporting focus, awareness, and overall well-being. And as you can see, our residents are putting in the work and having fun along the way!

Our residents enjoyed a memorable outing to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh, where we spent the afternoon exploring and learning about incredible birds from around the world.

From playful penguins to majestic eagles and vibrant flamingos, there was so much to see and discover. We even had the chance to watch penguins up close during feeding time—such a fun and unique experience!

It was a wonderful day of connection, curiosity, and shared moments together. 🐧🦩🦅

We had a wonderful time during our “Paint a Pot, Plant a Seed” craft project, generously sponsored by BrightStar Care North Hills / Pittsburgh. Residents enjoyed painting their own pots and selecting seeds to plant—making each creation uniquely their own.

Once the seedlings sprout, we’ll be transferring them outdoors to help beautify our raised garden beds.

We can’t wait to watch these blooms grow—just like the joy they brought to our community! 🌿🌼
