It’s National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. One simple way to shift negative body talk at home?
Gratitude journaling.

Encourage your child to write down 1–3 things they’re thankful for each day – helping move the focus from criticism to appreciation.

If your child is struggling with food or body image, you’re not alone. The team at UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics is here to support the whole child – mind and body.

How we talk about food matters more than we think.
Casual comments about “good” vs. “bad” foods, dieting, or body size can shape how kids view themselves – and their relationship with eating.

Let’s shift the conversation:
- Focus on nourishment, not numbers
- Celebrate strength, not size
- Model balance, not restriction

Healthy habits start at home. Open, judgment-free conversations make a difference.

If you’re concerned about your child’s eating patterns or body image, talk with your UPMC CCP pediatrician. We’re here to help.
