We're so grateful to our friends at The Children's Home of Pittsburgh for inviting Variety Families to attend SNACKS & SMILES COMMUNITY HUDDLE happening THIS Friday, April 24th from 2-6PM (see details below)! This was a wonderful event last year and the Variety team looks forward to being at Beauty Beyond Limits again on Saturday! Tickets are free (just RSVP via the link that is listed) and all Variety families are welcome to attend. We connected with our good friends from Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania for the first time at this event last year and have enjoyed collaborating so much together ever since. Thanks to CLASS and all of the organizers and sponsors for providing this enriching and rewarding inclusive experience!

Happy ! We had a wild week of firsts starting with Variety dad, Jimmy, repelling down 21 stories in downtown Pittsburgh! Check out this photo of him all dressed up for the occasion.

If you're not up for freezing and would like to try something new on the creative side, then check out the Art Show of Firsts hosted by our colleagues Three Rivers Community Care We're looking for individuals to create and donate artwork to be auctioned off for the benefit of Variety!

The 2026 Variety Clay Shoot Event sponsored by the Iron Workers Local Union No. 3 will take place on June 1, 2026 on the beautiful grounds of Long Vue Club in Verona.

Enjoy this unique way to help change the lives of children with disabilities. It includes a rich BBQ lunch as well as drinks and snacks during the shoot. After an afternoon of fun, you can cool down at the reception with a Cash bar and heavy hor d'voeuvres.

First up, Jimmy is GOING EVER THE EDGE!!!!! Jimmy has been a huge Variety supporter for many years, attending Galas, Labor Day parades, Halloween parties and more with his family. His son James received a bike from Variety that you can see in the pictures below. For his he's going to repel down 21 floors at 625 Liberty Ave. in downtown Pittsburgh. Lucky for you, we have the answer!

Prepare: Spark your First with an activity you have not done before (commit to it on social).
Create: Experience your First and capture the moment with photos/videos.
Share: Celebrate your First by sharing on social (using ) or via email.
Nominate: Challenge 2-3 friends to join VOF and try something for the First time.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!

Three Rivers Community Care is hosting An Art Show of Firsts to benefits Variety the Children's Charity. We're thrilled about this opportunity to partner with 3RCC and invite YOU to donate a pieces of original art work.

An Art Show of Firsts: We are Encouraging artists to participate in their first ever art show and guests to make their first ever art purchase.

Create a piece inspired by what one of the following means to you as a disabled artist or as an artist who is passionate about education and advocacy for our community:

Firsts
Community
Communication
mental Health
Inclusion
Friendship

Submissions can be up to 20inx20in. All visual art mediums are welcome. Art is due by June 1, 2026.

Mail or drop of your artwork to Three Rivers Community Care (1 Veterans Way, Suite 200, Carnegie, PA, 15106) OR to Variety the Children's Charity of Pittsburgh (11279 Perry Highway, Suite 512, Wexford, PA 15090).

There's only a few more left until it's Marathon Week! This week we're focusing on how you can support our Variety Runners!

Some are running again and some are running for their . Regardless, we're proud of ALL of our participants here's how you can show them some love.

1. Cheer them on day of! Come join us along the marathon route and look for our iconic red shirts. When you seem them cheer as loud as you can! We'll be around all weekend at the 5K, Champions Mile, kids run on Saturday and for the marathon on Sunday.
2. Share, Share, Share! Share this post and then tell someone at work, a friend, family member, or your local neighborhood barista about all of the amazing individuals running for a reason for Variety the Children's Charity of Pittsburgh.
3. Donate! If you're able to consider donating to one or more of our Variety Marathoners. Our goal is to raise $10,000. Can you help us reach that goal?

Calling anyone ages 11-18 that wants to join the newly found Emerging Leaders Board! ELB is a new leadership initiative from Variety designed to engage with emerging adults (ages 11 - 18), who want to play an active role in the mission, impact, and future of Variety.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with other emerging adults from across the Greater Pittsburgh Region and community while raising awareness and coordinating fundraisers/friendraisers.

Members will also learn from community leaders on the Variety board, gain an understanding of Non-profit work, and explore their own future careers and passions.

Interested applications should write two 200-250 word response to two of the following prompts and email it to Tom Baker, CEO (tom@varietypittsburgh.org) by April 21, 2026.

"A Champion for Change"
Describe a time when you helped someone in need or made a positive impact in your community. What role do you see yourself playing as an emerging leader?

"Dreams for a Brighter Future"
Imagine a world where every child has access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. How can you contribute to making this vision a reality through your involvement with Variety? Share your ideas for leading change and inspiring others.

"My Voice, Their Future"
Explain why you want to be part of the Emerging Leaders Board and how your voice and actions can help amplify the mission of Variety. What unique qualities or talents would you bring to this leadership role?

"Building a Community of Hope"
Reflect on what community means to you. How can you help build a supportive and inclusive environment for children facing challenges? Describe how your leadership can foster hope and resilience.

"Leadership in Action"
Think about a leader you admire, whether in your life, history, or a fictional character. What qualities do they have that you aspire to develop? How would you use these qualities to support Variety’s mission and the children it serves?
