Surprising benefits of Metformin? Relief for knee arthritis!

While Metformin is best known for managing blood sugar in type 2 diabetes, studies have shown it may also help slow the progression of knee osteoarthritis.
Metformin has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effects that may protect joint cartilage and reduce pain over time. It's not a painkiller, but it could help preserve joint function and reduce the need for more aggressive treatment down the road.
If you have knee arthritis and are already on Metformin - or considering it - this could be an added bonus. Talk to your doctor to see might be part of your joint health plan.

Healthy joints = a more active, pain-free life!

🌸 Spring Allergies Got You Down? We Can Help! 🌸

As the beautiful spring blooms fill the air, so do those pesky allergens. 🌷🌼 If you're one of the many in Wexford, PA, suffering from seasonal allergies, you're not alone. Pollen levels are high this time of year, especially in our local area, which makes it a perfect storm for sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion.

At Colonnades Family Medicine, we understand how frustrating allergies can be. Here are simple steps you can take to minimize symptoms and breathe easier:

🌿 Stay Indoors on High Pollen Days: Pollen counts are usually highest between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. – so consider keeping windows closed and avoiding outdoor activities during peak times.

💧 Wash Up: After spending time outside, wash your hands, face, and change clothes to remove pollen that might have clung to you.

🌬️ Use an Air Purifier: Keep your indoor air clean by using HEPA filters to remove allergens.

🧴 Over-the-Counter Remedies: Antihistamines and nasal sprays can help you manage symptoms. Ask us about the best options for you!

💧 Stay Hydrated: Drinking water helps thin mucus and can make your symptoms more bearable.

If your allergies are still causing problems or if you're new to the area and want more specific advice about what’s in the air here north of Pittsburgh, we’re here to help! 🏥

Give us a call to schedule an appointment. Let's make sure you're enjoying the beauty of spring without the discomfort of allergies. 🌞 724-940-5555

🌟 Do You Need the Measles Vaccine? 🌟

Measles might seem like a thing of the past, but it’s still a serious risk! 🦠 Here’s what you NEED to know:

🔍 Who needs the vaccine?

Children: The MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is recommended for all kids at 1 year and again at 4 years old.

Adults: If you haven't had the vaccine or measles before, it’s not too late! Especially if you plan to travel abroad or are in close contact with others

Pregnant women: If you're planning to get pregnant, make sure you're up to date on your vaccines, including MMR (but wait until after pregnancy).

💉 Why is it important?

Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications.

The MMR vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect yourself and those around you, especially the most vulnerable (like infants and the elderly).

💬 Give our office a call if you’re unsure about your vaccination status! Stay safe, stay protected, and let’s stop measles from making a comeback! ✨ 724-940-5555
