Sessions don’t always go as planned. In this particular session, we were targeting F sounds. I wore these butterfly wings and we made nature bracelets/anklets out of clear packing tape. She didn’t love the tasks, but we definitely got some F sounds today! The word of the day: Flexibility. Love this family and our time together. 🫶🏼

Just a repost. I think this is always helpful to go back to as this is the standard for ages children acquire the target speech sounds. It's helpful to know what speech sounds to look for and proper placement of the articulators as well as which ones are later developing and typical substitutions.

Familiarity is key for preserving adults with dementia’s memory skills. I love this! 💙

When I worked at the senior community, it was often times hard to see patients decline after being moved out of their homes into an unfamiliar space.

These “life story” books not only keep important information close, but can help through this difficult process.

Dementia patients and those who struggle to communicate after a stroke have been supported to create autobiographical ‘life story’ books.

It’s been a while since I last posted, BUT it’s because we’ve been hard at work! 😅

Congratulations to this guy here for graduating from speech therapy!! I appreciate how hard he (and his family) worked and it showed. He accomplished his goals in under 6 months! 🤗 So proud of him.

Fun fact: swear words are stored in the brain differently and are considered more emotionally attached words so in certain types of aphasia (loss of language typically due to a brain injury), they may still be able to string together 10 swear words, but can’t name “bike” when given a picture of a bicycle. 🤓

So I say get that lalochezia and swear it up if you are pi**ed. It does scientifically help.
