Her labs weren't borderline*. They were flagged. ⚠️

High cholesterol. Elevated glucose. Fasting Insulin high. HbA1c in the pre-diabetes range. These weren't numbers we could ignore.

But before reaching for a prescription from her doctor, we asked a different question: what can nutrition accomplish first?

In 5 months, through a personalized nutrition, supplements and lifestyle protocol we:

✅ Cut her Insulin by 52%
✅ Dropped her LDL Cholesterol by 27%
✅ Brought her Glucose back into a healthy range

This is what never stops amazing me about this work. When we give the body the right tools, real food, targeted strategies, and a plan that is truly individualized, based on real data, it responds in ways that consistently exceed expectations.

A nutrition-first approach isn't about avoiding medication. Often these are needed together. Instead, It's about honoring what the body is capable of before leaning into unnecessary interventions.

Working with your physiology—not against it—can inform the way you train, fuel, and recover.

Your cycle has the ability to influence energy levels, recovery capacity, appetite, and even hydration needs. When you start paying attention to these patterns, you can make small adjustments that optimize performance.

This doesn’t mean your training has to change dramatically. Often it’s simple shifts—fueling adequately, planning ahead, and prioritizing recovery when your body needs it most.

Start with awareness. Track your cycle this month and notice how your energy, mood, and training feel across phases.

In 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟮, we’ll explore how these strategies evolve during 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲.

If your cycle feels anything but predictable—irregular periods, severe PMS, persistent fatigue, or hormonal symptoms that won’t resolve—functional testing can help uncover the root cause.

𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 (Approx. Days 15–28): Support + Sustain 🔥

If workouts feel harder during this phase, it’s not simply in your head. As progesterone rises, body temperature increases, recovery may slow, perceived exertion is elevated, and carbohydrate needs often go up.

Rather than diminished capacity-this phase reflects a normal rise in metabolic and physiological demand.

Your cycle isn’t something to override.

It’s something to understand.

Track. Notice. Adjust.

Awareness creates precision.

A V5 was my New Year’s goal.
I honestly didn’t expect to get it this soon.

Progress isn’t accidental. It’s directed.

Grateful for my coach, Jessica Bachmann at Avant Specialized Performance. Even coaches need coaches.

Your cycle doesn’t have to be an inconvenience . . . instead let’s celebrate its intelligence.

Hormonal fluctuations across the menstrual cycle can influence:
• Energy
• Insulin sensitivity
• Body temperature
• Fuel utilization
• Perceived effort

That doesn’t mean the fundamentals change.
✅Progressive overload still matters.
✅Adequate protein still matters.
✅Sufficient energy availability still matters.

But emerging research reinforces something we cannot ignore: Women are not small men.

Understanding your biology helps you to work with your body—rather than against it.

This is Part 1 of my hormonally-informed training series. Next, I’ll explore how these strategies shift in perimenopause and menopause.
