Dr. Swander joined over 200 audiologists to lobby on Capitol Hill to increase access to audiologists for Medicare recipients. Colorado was well represented with Dr. D’Anne Rudden from Longmont Hearing and Tinnitus, Dr. Nichole Kovel from Elite Hearing of Colorado Springs, and Dr. Rachel MacArthur of MacArthur Hearing.

Drs. Whitney Swander and Hailey Guyette went out to support the Left Hand Rotary Club’s shotgun golf event at Colorado Clays.

The event raised thousands of dollars for local charities and many ears were protected! 👂🏻🙌🏻👂🏻

We had models showing off their new hearing protection and we were even able to take casts to order electronic and custom hearing protection for others. It was a success all around!

If you listen to KOA radio, you may have heard Jerry Schemmel, the Voice of the Rockies, sharing his successful experience getting help for his hearing with Hearing HealthCare Centers.

Tonight he shared four tickets so Dr. Swander and her husband and Dr. Wootton and her husband could attend the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It started out looking impossible- the Rockies were down 9-0 after the top of the first. In an incredible comeback, they came back in the bottom of the 9th to win 17-16! Wow!

But the best part was getting to visit Jerry in the press booth. Thanks for a great experience and an amazing game!

As a newly appointed member of the board of directors for the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, Dr. Swander and her colleagues went to Capitol Hill to lobby for the Medicare Audiology Access Improvement Act ( ). She was paired up with her friend, Dr. Stacy O’Brien from Florida to speak to the senators and representatives from Colorado and Florida to get co-sponsors for the bill.

Mostly the meetings were with staffers, but we had one surprise run in with a Senator in a hallway who was gracious enough to pose for a selfie!

MAAIA would do three major things for Audiology:

📝 Remove the physician order requirement for a hearing evaluation

🥼 Change the antiquated status for audiologists from “supplier” to “practitioner” that hasn’t been changed since the birth of Audiology when audiologists primarily dispensed hearing devices

🧾 Allow audiologists to be reimbursed for services that are already in the scope of practice but are currently excluded like earwax removal and auditory/vestibular rehabilitation.
