This research continues to move in the right direction for kidney patients.

What makes The Kidney Project’s implantable bioartificial kidney a better solution than dialysis?
Dialysis is a long process that requires multiple hours hooked up to a machine, which circulates and filters blood back into the body. Not only is dialysis often stressful to the body, but it also requires the kidney patients to restrict their diets severely.
Our implantable bioartificial kidney would work just like a healthy kidney, and it would filter toxins out of blood and concentrate the waste into urine. Due to the continuous treatment that the artificial kidney provides, patients will be able to eat and drink normally. The structure and chemistry of the device also makes it so there is need for immunosuppressive or anticoagulation medication.
Our Medical Director, Dr. William Fissell, and our Technical Director, Dr. Shuvo Roy, interviewed with Medscape back in August to discuss the advantages of the implantable bioartificial kidney and its path to clinical (human) trials.
