Since 1955 the volunteers of the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad (WVRS) have protected the public’s health and safety in Wheaton. We partner with the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service to ensure that no call for help goes unanswered. Every year our volunteers respond to over 10,000 emergency 9-1-1 calls for service. We respond to medical emergencies, fires, car crashes, and any other type of e

The following is a statement from the WVRS Public Information Officer.

Last night, Monday December 17, 2024, WVRS units responded to two separate collisions on Arcola Avenue resulting in overturned vehicles with persons trapped in each.

Arcola Avenue runs through a residential neighborhood with pedestrians and children at play. The speed limit is 30 MPH.

Vehicles traveling at the posted speed limit normally do not overturn when involved in a collision.

PLEASE SLOW DOWN on our neighborhood streets.

On Monday December 16th around 7pm, members of the Wheaton Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad, Inc. working the Christmas tree lot heard a vehicle crash close to our station. RS742 departed the station to investigate and located a single vehicle overturned with one trapped in the 2200 Blk of Arcola Ave.
RS742 crew quickly made access cuts with hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the driver who was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Just a few hours later after midnight, RS742 was alerted to a crash in the 1700 block of Arcola Ave for a vehicle overturned with a person trapped. The rescue squad arrived and quickly removed the drivers door and extricate the driver who was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Kensington Volunteer Fire Department also responded to both of these calls.
