Welcome to my series where I expose my own text messages for the sake of public education 💀

Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced by the pineal gland in your brain. Most notorious for sleep support.

Strengths of melatonin:
👉Sleep support:
- Helps regulate circadian rhythms and improve sleep quality
- Reduces the time it takes to fall asleep
- Particularly effective for jet lag recovery and shift work sleep disorders

👉Helps strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) to prevent acid reflux
👉Acts as an antioxidant, helping protect cells from oxidative stress
👉Supports immune system function
👉Preliminary studies suggest it might help slow tumor growth
👉Anti-inflammatory properties

Why it's not the magic answer for a lot of people's sleep:
❌Can make you more drowsy in the morning, especially if you take too high of a dosage, which even 1-3 mg may be that for you
❌Your sleep issue may not be a circadian rhythm problem and more related to things such as sleep hygiene, blood sugar dysregulation, GI imbalances, high cortisol, low progesterone and more

What else can you try or consider:
✅ For high cortisol, try ingredients like l-theanine, phosphatidyl serine, magnolia, ashwagandha and holy basil but also get your stress management under control PLEASE
✅ For low progesterone- you need to be figuring out why this is the case and if its normal for your age, consider talking to your doctor about BHRT and if it’s appropriate for you
✅ For blood sugar regulation, work with a nutritionist and get a CGM but at least have a protein/fat/fiber at every meal, don’t go too long without eat throughout the day and if you need a night time snack, grab something protein/fat based like some nuts
✅ For GI- get your self checked for H pylori and parasites
✅ Try the triple threat- magnesium glycinate, glycine and inositol
✅ Physical support- try ear plugs, gentle white noise, silk eye masks, acupressure mats, NO lights in your face or phone

And if you are going to try melatonin for sleep, start with .025- 0.5 mg with a liquid product and go up slowly!

➡️The TSH is like the gas light on the car, it is the signal that the car needs fuel (thyroid hormone). The free T4 (inactive thyroid hormone) is like the driver turning the engine of the car on. Now that the car is on, the driver has to step on the gas pedal to make it go forward (free T3, the active thyroid hormone) and get from point a to point b.

➡️Did you know that 80% of your inactive thyroid hormone needs to be converted into the active thyroid hormone in various organs, including your gut. If you are producing enough inactive hormone but it is not being converted into active hormone, you could develop signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism. But how would you know you're not converting well if your active hormone was never checked? You wouldn't.

➡️Often you will find the active hormone is low because the driver is slamming on the brake of the car, converting T4 into RT3. Elevated RT3 can happen due to inflammation, digestive disorders, strict dieting, extensive fasting, infections etc.

➡️Lastly, you have your emergency flashers. On the road, you put on your emergency light are a warning to fellow drivers. They alarm you that something just isn't right. Same thing goes for your thyroid and body. When a provider sees your antibodies creeping up or actually elevated It starts to warn us your immune system is overreacting and misfiring. In this case It shows us that the immune system Is attacking your own thyroid tissue (or something within that tissue). You can have 100% completely normal thyroid values (TSH, T4, T3, and RT3) and have completely abnormal antibody values. But how would you ever know If your provider never bothered checking them? You wouldn't.
