Very likely, your sleep isn’t as good as you might think.

Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our Minerva McGonagall due to complications from her overlapping medical problems. She was happy and all was normal, but she suddenly had a seizure. We immediately got her to a Veterinary Emergency Room, but there was nothing meaningful that could be done because of her multiple issues, and we let her go gently in my wife’s arms.

Minerva came to us at the age of eleven years after she was anonymously abandoned. We think she was the pet of an elderly woman who was thrown out after her person died. Minerva would always run over when an older female client arrived at our home office - hoping her first person had found her and come to take her home. She never broke that bond.

Minerva was with us for three and a half years, and we successfully treated her for chronic pancreatitis, diabetes and cryptococus. She was a mighty girl who ruled our home with an iron paw. This photo of her is one of my favorites where she gives me the “side-eye” because she knew I was about to give her medications. It shows the kind of spirit she had. Rest in Power, Pretty Girl. Perhaps you are with your first person once again.

Each and every one of us has the neurophysiology of belief, and we can learn to use that to maximize the evolutionary advantage it gives us.
