What is a vein ultrasound?

A vein ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive test used to evaluate how well blood is flowing through the veins in your legs. It allows us to identify any underlying issues—such as valve dysfunction or poor circulation—that may be causing symptoms like pain, swelling, or visible veins.

During the procedure:
• A small handheld device is used to capture images of your veins
• There are no needles or discomfort
• The test is completed right in our office

This important first step helps us accurately diagnose vein conditions and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

At McWilliams Vein Center, we focus on providing clear answers and comfortable, effective care from the very beginning.

“Is vein treatment covered by insurance?”

It’s one of the first questions many patients ask—and in many cases, the answer is yes.

When vein conditions cause symptoms like pain, swelling, heaviness, or discomfort, treatment may be considered medically necessary. This means insurance will often cover part or all of the procedure.

During your consultation, we will:
• Evaluate your symptoms and medical history
• Determine if treatment meets insurance guidelines
• Help you understand your coverage and next steps

If you’ve been putting off treatment due to cost concerns, it may be time to explore your options.

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that most commonly appear in the legs. They occur when the valves inside your veins are not functioning properly, allowing blood to pool and creating increased pressure within the vein.

For some, varicose veins are primarily a cosmetic concern—but for many, they can also cause symptoms such as:
• Leg heaviness or fatigue
• Aching or discomfort
• Swelling in the legs or ankles

In some cases, they may be a sign of a more complex underlying vein condition.

The good news is that effective, minimally invasive treatment options are available to help relieve symptoms and improve circulation.

At McWilliams Vein Center, we focus on identifying the root cause and guiding you toward the right solution for your needs.
