Good Morning Everyone, today, I’m going to do a post about boundaries.
You all know I am here to help you out. However, it’s become very necessary in recent years, for my own personal mental well being, to restrict access to me.
My friendliness seems to cultivate a personal friendship sort of feeling in people. Which is great! I love the connections that are forged in the shop. However, the problem becomes, people then begin thinking that my business protocols or booking requirements don’t apply to them. Afterall, we’re friends, right? I then get bombarded with personal messages on my private FB page, voice clips in texts, extended emails and phone calls on my own private line which has not been in published business use in well over a decade. (How in the world do strangers find my personal number??) And people exploit this friendly feeling to try to curry special favors or accommodations for themselves. I know it's not meant with ill intent, but it's happening. And it's happening all too often to be ok.
And, truthfully, it feels like a violation.
Here’s my boundaries:
If you wish to book a service here, fill out the booking forms found on my website.
This booking form asks every bit of information I need to get you scheduled. This is by design so I don’t have to waste extra time trying to extract the info I need to get you a place on the schedule. Refuse to do online booking? Then you can currently find me on Tuesdays & Wednesdays in the shop. I’m the only one who does the scheduling as there are multiple therapists sharing the same rooms. It’s a jenga game to make it all work. So don’t get upset at my staff when they tell you to book online or come talk to me directly when I am available in the shop. Again, I'm not available every single day.
Menu. On my website, there is an extensive menu of what we offer. Don’t see what you envision in your mind for yourself? Well, I will refer you back to our menu. Please don’t contact me with you wanting to create something we don’t offer. Or be upset that we won't do something special for you only. Choose from our highly cultivated menu options that are fully written out for your easy understanding. If you think our menu should be bent or changed for you, I will assure you, it won’t be. Please understand this.
Booking response. It’s me responding to each and every booking enquiry. Half the week, I’m locked in a massage room seeing clients. The other, I am am in the shop helping, in person customers. Or maybe I’m pouring Arthritis Balm or blending Teas or any one of a hundred other jobs that need constantly attended to. So, unless I happen to be right in front of the computer & schedule system, you will have to be patient for the response. Getting angry at me because I wasn’t able to drop everything and respond when you wanted tells me you likely aren’t our ideal client anyways.
Life. Did you all know I actually have a life outside of Under The Elder Tree? Yes, it’s true! I am a solo parent of 3 kids, and a grandson. I have aging parents, a daughter who’s in her last year of high school and I have a son with often extreme mental health challenges. They are the reason I am working. To provide for them. To take care of them. And to keep a roof over their heads. It just so happens that my work benefits you all. But you all are not the center of my existence. Please be respectful of that fact and understand that I have off work hours or possibly days too. And that might delay my response to you. Again, if that makes you upset and peeved off at me, then you aren’t the ideal client for my business.

I love helping you all out. But for me to not cave into the overwhelming stress of helping others, I, by necessity, have to set firm and clear boundaries of what I am capable of doing, and what I can’t personally tolerate to be able to juggle everything that’s going on in this building and in my life.
I hope you can all understand and help me to continue to do the work that I love, in a healthy, sustainable, way.
Helping you deal with your stress, should not be this stressful to me.

As I'm trying to get ready for an event this weekend, I was feeling the need for a new scent to be created. Often products are born because they just suddenly come to me and demand to be made. As I was working, the blend and the idea and concept & visuals behind the blend were coming into my mind.
Then a random customer walked in. She wanted an oil blend. And everything she described as needing, was exactly what I was being urged to blend. So together, the blend, Center was created.
It's about grounding to the Earth to let go of worries, pulling in the energy of the Sun to burn off stress & in that space in-between, finding your calm Center.
