As of May 31,2024, I will no longer be providing care to the people of West Virginia. I am closing my practice, and my family and I are exploring new employment opportunities in the state of Nebraska. I will be joining an established practice in the town of Scottsbluff, providing care to the citizens of Western Nebraska and the surrounding area. I have truly enjoyed my time here in Wheeling, but new opportunities have expanded my career, and I am looking forward to this next chapter. Thank you to all of my patients who have trusted me with their care over the years. It is an honor to have provided services to the great people in my home state.

Good evening, folks. As some are already aware, I will be taking some time off from work and clinical duties while undergoing treatment for prostate cancer. Therefore, my office will be closed after Christmas and for the entire month of January. It is my intention to return to work at the beginning of February if my condition allows it. However, we will still be available by telephone at the same number (304-243-3160) to schedule appointments, answer questions, etc. Please bear with me while I put my practice on a short hold to focus on my health. Thank you for your patience. I apologize for any inconveniences that this may cause. Merry Christmas to all. Here is a picture of the Christmas Market in Karlsruhe from our recent trip just for fun!

Got my third (booster) shot today of the Pfizer/Biontech COVID vaccine. If you are not vaccinated, please consider getting it, for your health and the health of everyone else.

Although our office is currently closed until August 4th, we are still here to answer any questions you may have via telephone or by email.

As many people are already aware, the operating rooms at Wheeling Hospital have been put on hold for anything other than urgent/emergent cases (e.g. cancer surgeries, car accidents, etc.). We are still seeing people in the office and doing minor procedures there, but elective surgeries, such as gall bladder removal, most hernia repairs, colonoscopies, etc., will have to wait until the hospital is back to full function. Please know that this was a decision made by the hospital administration in an effort to deal with Covid, but that I fully support this decision, even though it causes difficulty for me personally. I appreciate your support and patience through this difficult time.

P.S. Please wear a mask and continue to social distance.

Got my first dose of the covid vaccine today! No side effects that I have noticed. This is how we beat this!

Just watching Jim Justice's Covid update. My thought: If we are doing such a great job, then why haven't I, as a trauma surgeon at the biggest trauma center in the northern panhandle, been able to get vaccinated?!?

Several people have asked me my opinion, so let me clearly express: Absolute Joy over the first FDA approval of a covid vaccine! I can't wait to take it!

For those with office appointments and/or paperwork that needs to be filled out, we will be short-staffed over the next 2 weeks or so due to Covid. Please bear with us. We appreciate your patience!

Hello all,
So I came across something on the internet apparently from a few years ago that may be of interest. . . It claimed that the total US annual expenditure on healthcare was $3.2 Trillion. It then said that, if every doctor in the US instantly started working for free, that number would plummet to $3.0 Trillion. Anyone who knows me will confirm that I am a skeptic. I thought, "that can't possibly be right!" So I started googling and doing some simple math myself:

Approximate total number of physicians in the US: 1,000,000
Average total annual compensation for US physician: $300,000
(I rounded BOTH of these numbers upward, so our total compensation is an overestimate at $300,000,000,000 or $0.3 Trillion)

Total Annual spent on Healthcare in the US: $3.5 Trillion

If we all started working for free tomorrow:
Total annual cost of Healthcare in the US: $3.2 Trillion

Still think that doctors and "surprise medical bills" are THE problem? The real money goes to the insurance companies, hospitals, drug companies, and "administrators"!
