FOOTBALL

A little outdoor touch football game is always fun ⚽️🏈🤩

Try Turkey Tag to shake off the sluggishness often felt after a Thanksgiving meal. Each player wears three clothespins on their clothing. Participants run around trying to remove clothespins from competitors. This is an activity that combines the need to get moving with a healthy dose of competition.

THE ONE THING

For several years the one thing the cousins all couldn’t wait to do together was the Trampoline Park. Then there was a year we did indoor Go-Carts and another year Lazer Tag. Last year, they had a lot of fun doing an Escape Room Mystery. But no matter what the one thing was, it was something they didn’t get to do on a regular basis during real life days.

TAKE A HIKE

A big family hike or walk after we eat is always a treat and it leaves more room to come back for pie!

TURKEY TROT

For years our family would run the Turkey Trot. I know a lot of communities have a Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning to participate in. We love those runs so much!

TO THE THEATER

There is usually a family friendly movie coming out Thanksgiving week and we love to go see it together. A few years Grandma took the little ones to the newest cartoon, while the bigger people went to another show. But we still all went together and met up after.

Your family could also do a screening at home of a special newer movie or make watching one like Planes, Trains & Automobiles extra special with popcorn and treats.

Go BOWLING

We often go bowling during Thanksgiving. Sometimes it’s Thanksgiving Eve or Thanksgiving night or the Friday after. It depends on when the most family will be together.

Consider having a floating trophy from year to year to pass on to the winner. You can have one made or keep your eye out for one at thrift shops and antique stores.

There are lots of fun ideas to decorate and play extra games while at the alley. You could even get shirts made or have everyone find a vintage one to wear. Give fun prizes 🏆

Watch the MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE

Not everyone in the family loves watching the parade, but those that do, don’t want to miss a moment of this tradition. Fix an easy Parade breakfast with an egg casserole. Enjoy 😋

What’s our family’s secret to having the best Thanksgiving?

Our family won’t let us jump over Thanksgiving and straight into Christmas. They have too many fond memories and things they look forward to about the Holiday to just give it one huge Thanksgiving meal and sit watching football.

Try a THANKSGIVING MOVIE

We have a Thanksgiving movie. It is one of our family’s favorite movies and it never gets old. We laugh just as hard each time we watch it as the time before. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is the story of a man trying to get home from a business trip to his family for Thanksgiving. The amazing comic duo of Steve Martin and John Candy make for a movie that is quoted in our family throughout the year.

Veterans Day is a time to thank those who are serving or have served and are still with us. Memorial Day is to reflect and remember those who lost their lives in service to their country. Confusing the two or combining the two diminishes the importance of both.

😎 Get outdoors with a Veteran 🤩

Invite a veteran or a military family to explore a national park. Being outside helps improve physical and mental health, boosts emotional well-being and is a great way to celebrate the day with a veteran.

🤔 Ask someone about their service…

It seems like we all know someone who has served, and ANY day is a great day to ask them about their service. Learning more about their service can help you appropriately say "thank you."

Here are some questions to get you started:

🇺🇸 What did you do in the military?
🇺🇸 How long did you serve?
🇺🇸 What was your favorite moment in all your time in the service?
🇺🇸 Did anyone else in your family serve?
🇺🇸 Why did you go into the service branch that you did?

Do not ask whether they've killed anyone. If you’re talking to a combat vet, be supportive without being intrusive. Sometimes you don't have to say much of anything; just listen and give them your full attention.

EVERY day is a great day to fly the flag 🇺🇸 Just make sure you're observing the proper rules for display. Here are a few of those important tips:

🇺🇸 Never drag a U.S. flag on the ground or let it touch the ground.
🇺🇸 Don't drape it over the hood, top, sides or back of a vehicle.
🇺🇸 Don't display the U.S. flag above any other flag, and keep it at the center when it's surrounded by other flags.
🇺🇸 Don't display a tattered or torn flag. Flags that are tattered and torn should be disposed of in a respectful way, preferably by burning or recycle at a Veterans VFW...
🇺🇸 Never use the flag as apparel, bedding or drapery.

🇺🇸 Today is Veterans Day and a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect 🇺🇸

We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

🍽 Take a veteran to breakfast, lunch or dinner 🍽

Each year, tons of restaurants step up to the plate to say thank you, and although a free meal is just a small way to thank our veterans it really does mean a lot to them.

I know some people that love being able to eat out for every meal on Veterans without having to pay a dime, and it really does mean a lot to them. From Applebee’s, Red Lobster, Chipotle, Denny’s, Chili’s, Olive Garden to IHOP, there’s many to choose from.

Hey, and how about attending a Veterans Day event -- not just a get-together with friends but an honest-to-goodness parade or service for veterans. Roy Rogers said, "We can't all be heroes; someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by." Veterans Day is a great opportunity to do just that.

“Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest taken between two deep breaths.”

"As long as you are breathing, there is more right with you than wrong with you, no matter what is wrong.…"

"Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment."

The vagus nerve comprises one of the most important nerves in the body. The vagus nerve helps control and regulate important automatic functions such as heart rate, breathing, respiration, digestion, hormone control, and STRESS.

The vagus nerve is especially important to Functional Doctors because of the link between essential nerves and the spine and upper neck. If the spine becomes altered in its positioning or ability to move freely, the information to and from the vagus becomes interrupted.

Chiropractors play close attention to the alignment and movement of the spine to assure better vagus nerve activity.

I hope this week's posts have helped you see how important it is to stimulate your Vagus Nerve and the benefits it provides. I shared my personal morning routine; but remember, you march to your own drummer and certain things will appeal to you and work within your personal and family life 🤩

❓What is my morning routine to stimulate my Vagus Nerve?

My routine is what works for me….… I do change it up regularly, but currently, this is an example of what works for me.

I get up around 6am and grab my daily devotional book. I do some deep breathing for about (10) mins, and then move into my stretching exercises. Last but not least, I open my daily devotional book where I open in prayer by asking God to speak to me and then pour out any worries, concerns, and happenings that I’ve been thinking about.

I then write down my past days gratitudes, and finish by reading my daily devotional. Once I get into the office I then get adjusted every day or two, keeping my spinal alignment and Vagus Nerve in perfect health.

This practice sets my daily mood and helps me feel the divine power through the day 🤩
