🌟Staff Highlight: Dr. Megan Numbers🌟

Dr. Megan is a counselor educator, child whisperer, and founder of Play Therapy of the Pines, a creative mental health practice where play, connection, and a little bit of magic fuel the work we do. She has over 15 years of experience in the mental health field and as a Registered Play Therapist™, she helps kids make sense of their world using miniatures, stories, play, and imagination. Dr. Megan believes that healing happens when children feel understood, caregivers feel supported, and everyone in the room gets permission to be fully human.

Outside the playroom, Dr. Megan teaches future counselors how to trust their intuition, use their voice, and show up authentically with clients. At her core, she’s someone who believes that connection changes everything, laughter belongs in therapy, and kids often teach us more than we teach them.

Dr. Megan uses a variety of expressive interventions to include: sandplay therapy, art therapy, music therapy, Theraplay, TF-CBT, Internal Family Systems, clinical pediatric hypnotherapy and so much more!

✨Fun Facts About Megan:
🏔️ Colorado native who once climbed a 14,000-ft mountain with a sprained ankle (because apparently she doesn’t know how to quit).

💃 She’s danced with Bill Murray and Emma Stone - still waiting for her official Hollywood break.

🎤 She loves to sing—Disney, country, musicals, and Backstreet Boys. Yes, there are office concerts.

🧠💛 Big believer in joy + connection—whether that’s through play, laughter, or a perfectly timed sing-along.

✨It’s official - I’m running for the Board of Education✨

When I’m elected, my focus will be on student mental health and well-being as a foundation for learning.

When students feel safe, supported, and emotionally regulated, they’re better able to focus, engage, and grow. Strong academics and student well-being go hand in hand.

I’m committed to strengthening connection in our schools, supporting educators, and ensuring students have access to environments that help them build resilience and confidence. That means listening to students, collaborating with families and teachers, and prioritizing practices that support the whole child.

Healthy minds help students learn.
Supported students help schools thrive.

This past Friday, I graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program and I’m still taking in what it meant to me and my practice.

This program stretched me in all the right ways. It sharpened my understanding of financials, SOPs, my vision and leadership; and it challenged how I see myself as a business owner. I walked in wearing every hat, carrying every responsibility, and questioning whether I was doing “enough.” I walked out with clarity, confidence, and a renewed vision for my purpose.

What made this experience extraordinary wasn’t just the curriculum, it was the connection with community. Being in rooms with other founders who are bold, brilliant, and deeply committed to building something that matters, reminded me that growth doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when we learn together, challenge each other, and tell the truth about how hard and meaningful this work really is.

I had to bring my daughter to the closing face-to-face module last week because life, being a mom and a business owner don’t pause for anything. Instead of judgment, I was met with encouragement and affirmation. It was a reminder that building a business and being a present parent are not competing identities; they can coexist, and they should because we are the role models for our children.

I’m leaving 10KSB with stronger systems, a clearer vision, and a deeper belief in what’s possible for the future not just for my practice, but for the families and communities it serves. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and for the reminder that investing in yourself is never a detour; it’s the strategy.

I am so blessed with amazing people in my life who supported me on this journey; my friends who have nodded and smiled at every outer space idea I’ve presented to them, and my children for always being my biggest cheerleaders.

And to the Goldman Sachs 10KSB team and cohort of the amazing 36 small business owners in North Carolina: thank you for raising the bar and reminding me why I started in the first place.

💬 “I am Groot.”
If you’ve ever watched Guardians of the Galaxy, you know that Groot only says three little words… but Rocket always understands exactly what he means.

Parenting a neurodivergent child can feel the same way. Your child is communicating — through play, behaviors, and body language — but sometimes it feels like you’re not speaking the same language. That’s where this workshop comes in. 🌱🚀

Join us for Be the Rocket to Your Groot, a 2-hour interactive workshop for parents of neurodivergent kids.

Together we’ll:
🌟 Explore how the neurodivergent brain works differently (and brilliantly).
🌟 Learn why demands don’t always work and what to do instead.
🌟 Understand masking and the toll it takes on kids.
🌟 Practice “Rocket responses” that help you connect, co-regulate, and support your child in ways that truly land.

Your child doesn’t need to change who they are — they need you to become their Rocket. 💚

📍 Virtual workshop offered at two different times 9-11am or 1-3pm on Oct. 18
