The 4th trimester is the first 3 months of your postpartum period where bonding, nutrition, comfort, nurturing and rest are most important for BOTH you and your baby.

It is the beginning of your transition into motherhood. It is a time of healing and adjustment.

It is a time of great change.

Preparing for this period will ensure that bonding, nutrition, comfort, nurturing and rest are a part of your postpartum in a way that works for you.

Preparing for this period allows you to anticipate and adjust to the many changes as best as possible.

If you'd like to learn more about the 4th trimester and prepare for this period and beyond, please join us for my Prepared Postpartum class starting in September.

Send me your questions.

I hope to see you there!

Your early postpartum period (AKA the 4th trimester) should be restorative. It's a time of healing, bonding with your new one, rest, and restoration.

Contrary to our cultural norms, it is not a time for doing and productivity.

Your body is recovering from birth, possibly feeding a new human and slowly transforming (once again) to a non-pregnant state.

You deserve to be nurtured too. It's not a luxury, it's a need.

I'd love to know, how were you nurtured in your postpartum? If you're pregnant now, how would you like to be nurtured in your postpartum?

Currently, preparation for the arrival a new baby is focused on the pregnancy and birth.

But, what happens after baby arrives?

Many women fall into the gap in care that currently exists. They are left to nurture themselves and find their own answers to the healing, support, community or guidance they need.

The birthing parent should not do these things alone. They need nourishment, support and care just as a newborn does.

Prepared Postpartum is a group for birthing parents to do just that, prepare you for the healing period of the 4th trimester, the major life changes that come with the addition of a sweet baby and your transition into a new role.

Join us on Wednesdays from 6 - 7p, starting September 7th

I heard recently on the Dear Mama Podcast with , season 3 episode 12.

It is an A-MAZING and powerful conversation on motherhood and the perfect mother myth.

This quote stuck out to me because the truth of this statement resonated so deeply.

No only does the work of the mother remain invisible, so too does the mother herself.

We must nurture and support mother's, allow for imperfection, and put them at the center of the family where they truly are.

We must do better for mothers, each other and the greater good.

Tell me, does this quote resonate with you? Have you felt invisible in your role as mother? Do you push back on the perfect mother expectations?

If you are wondering what to do to heal after your cesarean, the answer is CST and Pelvic Floor Therapy.

CST assists the healing process for the scar area, the connective tissues, the muscles and even the organs. It can also help the emotional healing process if the cesarean was experienced as traumatic or unplanned.

Pelvic Floor Therapists teach you how to reconnect with your pelvic muscles, breathing, and posture. A pelvic floor therapist can also teach you how to massage the scar, desensitize the area and monitor the healing process.

There is so much to offer postpartum birthing parents during the healing process!

Advocate, educate, refer.

In April we celebrate both of my professional loves, Occupational & CranioSacral Therapy. Whoot!

I realize the month is almost over, but better late than never. And, I'm working on "better done, then perfect."

ALSO, I spent the first week of April on Sanibel Island in FL. So, I was busy doing a lot of relaxing and playing.

Sanibel is known for their shells and we found SO. MANY. SHELLS!

Walking ankle deep in the ocean searching for nature's beauty (AKA shelling) is one of my new favorite occupations.

In OT we believe that work, rest and play all contribute to our sense of purpose, contribution and wellness. The magic is in getting the right balance.

How do you work, rest and play! What comes the easiest and what do you have to be more considerate of?

It's Myth-Busting Monday 💣

Have you every felt like your intuition was shut down by what an expert was telling you?

It might feel like the expert is judging you, expecting that you don't ask questions, telling you what you're capable of, or what's right for you.

In the area of mothering (including pregnancy and birth) the expert has been given more weight than your intuition. I would venture to say that we have been conditioned to ignore our intuition all together.

Where does that leave a woman or mother when it comes to making decisions about her health, her body, her child, her family?

Disempowered? Invisible? Confused? Harmed?

What if, instead, the message was:

Listen to the experts AND your intuition.

Small shift, big impact.

The experts have something to offer, but so do YOU.

Just because an expert says you should or shouldn't, or you must, or you can't doesn't mean you have to follow what they say.

Hear what they have to say, get multiple professional opinions, find people you deeply trust, gather more information AND listen to your inner wisdom.

THEN make the decision that is right for you and your family.

Early intervention is like when your GPS recalculates your course because you took a wrong turn.

Your GPS wants to get you back on course right away so that you get to where you are going.

Identifying a misdirection in your child's development early on allows for them to get back on course right away. It optimizes their development and their trajectory now so that they avoid bigger challenges as they grow.

Your GPS corrects your path right away for the same reasons, to keep you on course, avoid major rerouting and save you time.

Why wait until you've driven even 10 minutes in the wrong direction when a quick U turn will get you back on track?

If you have questions about your infant's or young child's development schedule a free call using the link in my bio!
