Do you work with an aging population in your facilities?
We all will, inevitably. Below is a webinar offered by SAMHSA that may address some of the challenges you may encounter. I recommend you check it out!
Improving Behavioral Health Care for Older Adults in the Criminal Justice System
December 4, 2024, 2:30–4:00 p.m. ET
In response to an aging population that is quickly expanding within the criminal justice system, tailored care strategies that address both the physical and behavioral health complexities of older adults are needed. However, information, collaboration, and evidence-based practices are critically lacking in criminal justice settings to address the specific behavioral health needs of older adults, including cognitive decline, mental health disorders, end-of-life needs, and complications stemming from other physical health problems.
This webinar will explore the current need for improved behavioral health strategies for aging adults and critical partnerships between correctional facilities and state- or community-based agencies. Emerging best practices for addressing the behavioral health needs of aging populations in the criminal justice system will also be presented, building on SAMHSA GAINS Center’s 2024 presentation
"Responding to a Growing Demographic: Supporting Older Adult Populations within the Criminal Justice System."
Presenters
Stephanie Grace Prost, PhD, Associate Professor, Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work & Family Science, University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky
Laura Roan, MA, Vice President of Prison Services, Osborne Association, Newburgh, New York
