Today’s HHS announcement matters.

We want to share some exciting and important updates about how Northern Lights Medicine is evolving to serve you better—and to reach even more people on their healing journeys.

Dr. Otten remains deeply committed to optimizing the health of every patient as well as providing personalized care for chronic illnesses like Lyme, autoimmune conditions, MCAS, and digestive issues. But to reduce overhead without raising costs, and to make space for larger-impact projects (like group programs and online education), we’re adjusting a few parts of our practice model:

🔬 Lab Services:
We will no longer offer in-office blood draws. Instead, we’ll refer patients to trusted partners including Quest Diagnostics, Rupa Health’s national network, and local draw sites—including some with in-home options.

🏥 Appointment Format:

We’re expanding! Dr. Otten is adapting the care model to serve patients across multiple states via secure telehealth platforms. More access, same depth of care.

I often see patients who were thankfully treated promptly for Lyme disease, however ticks are like dirty needles and can hold numerous other pathogens. We often call the tick-borne infections that can come with Lyme disease “co-infections”. To fully recover every patient, these infections need to be adequately treated. -Dr. Otten

Ticks carry more than just Lyme.

In fact, there are 20+ tick-borne diseases. Some examples of co-infections include Babesia, Anaplasma, Ehrlichia, and Bartonella. In endemic areas, the frequency of these tick-borne co-infections ranges from 4-45%, and this percentage is likely even larger.

Understanding how to treat these co-infections alongside Lyme is essential for patient treatment. To properly care for patients with Lyme, clinicians need to recognize the role of co-infections in a patient’s health, too.
