Our Story
This page was created in honor of Josh Papenheim, who died of su***de on February 10, 2016.
Nearly 3 years later, on December 12, 2018, Josh’s sister, Sarah Papenheim, was murdered by her roommate who had become psychotic due to untreated mental illness. Sarah was instrumental in starting this page and the annual You Matter event.
The purpose of this page is to support mental health in any way we can to prevent su***de and to stave off suicidal thoughts.
We believe that performing acts of kindness to help others will help not only them, but yourself as well. You never know when an act or words of kindness may save a life. Performing an act of kindness can also help your own mental health just by brightening someone else’s day and helping you to feel like you make a difference in the world.
We strive to present the latest in treatment options for all who are struggling with mental illness and suicidal ideation.
We strive to remind people that if they're feeling like they don't matter to tell SOMEONE! They are not alone.
We strive to remind people that they need to be aware when they may have intentionally or unintentionally devalued or hurt someone they should DO SOMETHING to fix it. There is nothing worse than having regrets.
We strive to teach our children not to bully
We strive to teach our children that bullies are usually damaged people who only feel better when they’re victimizing someone else. Their bully also needs help.
We hope that people will share their stories of hope, of loss, of grief, of survival.
Share your ideas to help prevent su***de.
Let's hold each other accountable for kindness and respect.
