❄️ With winter storm alerts stretching nearly 2,000 miles across the U.S., it’s a great time to brush up on generator safety in case you lose power.

Before you plug in and power up, remember:

📏 Keep generators at least 20 feet from your home
🏠➡️ Always direct generator exhaust away from buildings
🚨 Make sure you have working carbon monoxide (CO) alarms inside your home
⛽️ Never refuel a generator while it’s running or still hot

Keep yourself warm by dressing in layers when temperatures drop. Wear 2-3 layers, a beanie, some gloves, and waterproof boots to keep your body heat in and the cold out. Bundling up makes all the difference!

Ok, Jefferson County residents, let’s keep our unhoused neighbors safe during this extended cold snap! The overnight warming shelter at Opportunity House will open tomorrow (Jan. 17, 2026) at 6:00 pm!

Help us spread the word by sharing on social media, printing and distributing the flyer, showing the flyer to any unsheltered person you see from your mobile devices! Do what you can to help people who may be exposed to the extreme cold temps! This takes community!

Also volunteers and food are ALWAYS needed and appreciated! ❤️

Due to a severe blood shortage in our area, this is an emergency blood drive, and we strongly encourage anyone who is willing and able to donate to please consider helping.
