Breech Baby at 22 Weeks? Let’s Talk About It!
At my last appointment, I found out that my baby is breech—and instead of worrying, I thought I’d use this moment to teach and support others who might be going through the same thing!
At 22 weeks, it’s very common for babies to be in a breech position (that means baby’s bottom or feet are down instead of the head). Right now, there’s still plenty of room in the womb for baby to move and flip around!
Around 15% of babies are breech before 30 weeks, but most will naturally turn to a head-down position (cephalic) between 28–36 weeks. That’s why providers don’t usually consider breech positioning a concern until closer to 32–34 weeks.
Some cool facts:
• A breech baby’s spine is more vertical early on, which stretches the womb upwards.
• Babies are super mobile right now and can switch positions often—sometimes daily!
• There’s still time, space, and support for baby to turn.
So if you’ve recently heard the word “breech” in your pregnancy update, take a deep breath—you’re not alone, and there’s a good chance baby will shift naturally as your pregnancy progresses.
As your doula, I’m always here to talk through positioning, movement, and what to expect—whether it’s your first pregnancy or your fourth. Your birth story is unfolding beautifully!
