More than a third of U.S. adult population suffer from insufficient sleep. Adults must sleep 7 hours or more each night for optimal health. Insufficient sleep is defined as less than 7 hours of sleep daily. Sufficient sleep is essential for a healthy lifestyle and not obtaining enough sleep can increase the risk of a number of chronic diseases. Including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, obesity and depression. Not obtaining enough sleep can also contribute to motor vehicle accidents and machinery-related injury.

Tips for better sleep:
1. Be consistent. Go to bed at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning, including on the weekends.
2. Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, relaxing, and at a comfortable temperature.
3. Remove electronic devices, such as TVs, computers, and smart phones, from the bedroom.
4. Avoid large meals, caffeine, and alcohol before bedtime.
5. Get some exercise. Being physically active during the day can help you fall asleep more easily at night.

To ALL of those and their families that are suffering with the perils of substance use disorder, we need you to understand: we do NOT judge! All we ask is to trust us to take care of you. Please come see us, you are the reason we practice medicine!
