Let’s talk PROTEIN — and why it’s having a moment (for good reason).

Most people think protein is just about building muscle. But it’s so much more than that.

✅ It’s the repair crew for every cell
✅ It helps protect your bones (yep, even more than just calcium)
✅ It keeps your immune system strong
✅ And it fuels recovery from daily stress and wear & tear

If you’re plant-based, you’ll just need to be a little more intentional — but it’s 100% doable.

Let's Talk About GLP-1 Drugs: My Honest Take 💬

Lately, one of the most common questions I get from friends is about the new GLP-1 medications (like Ozempic, Wegovy, etc.). It's a huge topic right now, so I wanted to share my perspective!

Quick Info: GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a natural hormone in our bodies. These new drugs mimic it, helping to slow down digestion so you feel full longer, regulate blood sugar, and increase insulin. For many, these have been a game-changer in losing significant weight, especially for those who've struggled with constant "food chatter" and finding sustainable results.

Did you know? 🤔 Your body actually makes its own GLP-1! You can naturally boost this with foods high in:

~ Fiber (fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans)
~ Polyphenols (berries, broccoli, green tea, ginger)
~ Bitter Foods (kale, dandelion greens, dark chocolate, coffee)

And exercise! A short 10 minute walk can boost your GLP-1 production and lower blood sugar levels. Working with a coach can be really helpful in incorporating all of these habits to become part of your everyday life.

My Opinion: One Size NEVER Fits All!

While these medications offer a powerful tool, it's crucial to understand they don't teach you how to eat in the long run. In my experience, proper nutritional guidance isn't always part of the doctor's conversation, and that's a big missing piece. Remember that this class of drugs does come with potential side effects.

Even if you're losing weight and have less appetite, it's still SO important to make healthy food choices and stay hydrated! Our bodies thrive on vitamins, minerals, and high-quality nutrients from whole foods, regardless of our weight.

So, what do I really think? My go-to approach is almost always food and lifestyle changes first. But I recognize that sometimes people need more support, and these medications can be a part of their journey.

As we age, we absorb less magnesium and may lose more through the kidneys—especially if we take medications like diuretics or proton pump inhibitors.

On top of that, modern farming has depleted our soils, leaving even healthy foods lower in magnesium than they used to be.
