Let's Talk About GLP-1 Drugs: My Honest Take 💬
Lately, one of the most common questions I get from friends is about the new GLP-1 medications (like Ozempic, Wegovy, etc.). It's a huge topic right now, so I wanted to share my perspective!
Quick Info: GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a natural hormone in our bodies. These new drugs mimic it, helping to slow down digestion so you feel full longer, regulate blood sugar, and increase insulin. For many, these have been a game-changer in losing significant weight, especially for those who've struggled with constant "food chatter" and finding sustainable results.

~ Fiber (fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans)
~ Polyphenols (berries, broccoli, green tea, ginger)

My Opinion: One Size NEVER Fits All!

In my experience, proper nutritional guidance isn't always part of the doctor's conversation, and that's a big missing piece. Remember that this class of drugs does come with potential side effects.
Even if you're losing weight and have less appetite, it's still SO important to make healthy food choices and stay hydrated! Our bodies thrive on vitamins, minerals, and high-quality nutrients from whole foods, regardless of our weight.
So, what do I really think? My go-to approach is almost always food and lifestyle changes first. But I recognize that sometimes people need more support, and these medications can be a part of their journey.
