An efficient pencil grasp allows a significant amount of finger movement and does not fatigue the muscles of the hands. The most common efficient grasp is called a tripod grasp. An efficient grasp can not develop if the rest of the arm is weak! Work on strengthening the shoulder and wrist as well as hand strength.
Another important factor to remember is to develop the arches in the hands! Any type of weight bearing activity such as animal walks and yoga help develop hand arches. Other activities include, rolling dice in the palm of the hand and making balls out of play dough or putty.

Don’t forget to have fun with these activities!
