Lisa Curtis, Counseling & Coaching I help my clients end destructive relationships with behaviors that are getting in their way & design life plans so they can live in the NOW.

I work with highly motivated people who are seeking the sweet spot for their lives. I help clients who deeply care about the life they are leading and help them make it more complete, more in alignment with their values, goals and directions. I tackle the tough stuff like ending relationships with destructive behavior such as drinking too much or spending money that's not to be had, in order to en

sure all possible options are open. I hate it when choices are cut off because of not brilliant decisions I've made in the past, and so do my clients. Together, my clients and I identify options, find best practices for them and how to implement those choices into their day to day life. I believe strongly that we always live in choice. Like life, my clients are varied in where they are on the walk to find out what is important to them & how they wish to move forward. It is a joy, privilege and blessing to move forward with those who seek me out.

One wonders why I still keep my client notes on paper? I'm all for electronic records but I'm also extremely concerned about the notes that can be read far and wide ~

Health care systems have been putting therapists’ progress reports online, much to the surprise (and anger) of some patients.

Those who need therapy often have to pay out of pocket or go without care, even if they have health insurance. Hundreds of mental health providers told us they fled networks because insurers made their jobs impossible and their lives miserable.

A friend recommended Bruce Feiler's book, “Life is in the Transitions,” and it’s been a thought-provoking read. Feiler suggests our lives experience major transitions every 18 months, with significant “life quakes” happening 3 to 5 times over a lifetime. These life quakes, like the death of a loved one, divorce, or major career changes, are often personal and involuntary, leaving us to cope while the world moves on.

This got me thinking about how we prepare for life’s inevitable changes. While we can’t always have a ‘to-do’ list, there are strategies to help navigate these transitions:

1. Embrace the idea that nothing stays the same.
2. Prepare for chosen changes, but expect the unexpected twists.
3. Focus on what’s important to you, not what others think should be.
4. Practice gratitude, even for small things.
5. Remember that everything is temporary, both good and bad.

One major life quake many face is retirement, which is considered one of the most stressful life events. The shift from a structured career to a new routine can feel like the ground is shifting beneath you.

Preparing for life events, whether it’s retirement, starting a new career, or ending a relationship, can help reduce stress. Developing coping skills and making plans for these transitions is crucial.

If you need help creating your own plan for upcoming changes, feel free to email me. Let's navigate these life quakes together.

I was thinking about plants in my garden the other day and realized the plantings and Therapy Intensives have a great deal in common. There's always a push/pull in gardening; do you purchase tiny starter plants and wait many years or do you invest your financial resources in the here and now, to enjoy a more mature plant now?

Have you ever been to a 70th wedding anniversary part? I got to attend one and I want to share what I learned there. I was pretty surprised at how many people were there, and well connected to the bride and groom...and not just their kids and family. What you and I can learn, take away for our own planning and celebrate.
