Healthcare should heal - not harm. Yet for too many, weight stigma creates barriers to care, silences voices, and leaves lasting trauma.

Today kicks off Weight Stigma Awareness Week, and we’re uniting to end anti-fat bias in healthcare.

Together with Within Health and the Body Equity Alliance, this year’s theme, Healing Without Harm: Ending Weight Stigma in Healthcare, calls for change in the systems that impact us all.

From outdated metrics like BMI to the automatic prescription of dieting, we know these practices don’t equal health. It’s time for healthcare that listens, respects, and supports every body.

Whether your child is gaining weight in preparation for puberty, by emotional/behavioral eating, or through problems with regulating their sense of hunger and fullness, it’s essential to make home a haven of love and support.

One tip we share with our clients is to refrain from talking about diets or restricting food intake. Instead, focus on fostering a positive relationship with food by emphasizing balance and moderation.

Not all dietitians have the training and experience needed to support eating disorder recovery. A specialist understands that healing is about more than just food, and they provide weight-inclusive guidance that is nonjudgmental and tailored to your needs.

At Erica Leon Nutrition & Associates, we believe everyone deserves compassionate, evidence-based, and nonjudgmental support and ED treatment. If you’re searching for the right dietitian, this article will help you understand what to look for and how to find the best fit for your journey.

If you've ever felt misunderstood by a provider, this post is for you. Her story is not rare, and it’s time for a shift in how we define and support recovery.

Sure, college is an important time of life, but it’s also a fun one! Balance and moderation are the key to building healthy habits and a good relationship with food.

Help your student understand how to balance their diet, whether they’re eating at the cafeteria or cooking in a shared kitchen. Discuss strategies for creating balanced meals with a mix of proteins, grains, and vegetables. This preparation will enable them to make healthier choices and manage their time effectively, even during busy periods.

But remember, it’s also okay to enjoy pizza or an ice cream sundae when the mood strikes, as deprivation often leads to overeating or even disordered eating.
