Rehabilitation from stroke-induced aphasia means reimagining patient communication abilities beyond words.

In recognition of Stroke Awareness Month, we highlight how Burke helps people living with aphasia, an acquired communication disorder, make meaningful gains in both language and quality of life. One way is through the Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Program (ICAP) – the only one of its kind in Westchester County.

For Rodney, rehabilitation isn’t about what he’s lost, it’s about all he’s gained. “Life Part 2, after the amputation,” says the 60-year-old, “is better than Life Part 1.”

Thanks to expert care at Burke Rehabilitation, Rodney set bold goals: walking, then running, and even joining us at the Burke Heels & Wheels 5K this week. Surrounded by his “Resilient Rodneys” crew, he inspires others living with limb loss to see possibility in every challenge.
