August is the Sunday of Summer and as we lean towards Labor Day weekend, there are lots of transitions looming. Kids off to college, back to school, weather changes and the work pace kicks up again. Transitions often bring anxiety. Here are my top tips for staying sane through the chaos!
1. Prioritize your sleep - 8 hours is key
2. Exercise. A simple walk around the block after dinner is a massive de-stressor
3. Focus on your breathing. When it's all too much look inward and use my favorite method. Inhale deeply through your nose "smell the pizza" and exhale forcibly through your mouth "blow out the candles"
5. Have some fun with a friend or a loved one. A casual dinner, a walk together, a phone call. Human beings are social animals. No one can thrive in solitude.
6. Put down the screen. Evidence shows that the longer we look at screens the higher our levels of neuroticism, anxiety and low self-esteem.
