We are pleased to announce our new Middle School Social Skills Group, starting on April 9th. Is your child struggling to connect with peers or feeling overwhelmed in social situations? Many preteens and teens experience anxiety about interacting with others, difficulty with conversation and boundaries, or uncertainty about how to build and maintain friendships. These challenges can lead to isolation, low confidence, and increased emotional distress.

SOCIAL → BRIDGE is a structured, skills-based social group that helps adolescents develop practical strategies for navigating real-world social situations. Participants learn how to read social cues, build reciprocal conversations, initiate and join interactions, manage social discomfort and emotional dysregulation, understand group dynamics, and repair or end interactions effectively. Through guided practice and supportive coaching with peers, adolescents gain greater social confidence, flexibility, and connection.

Families interested in learning more about upcoming groups and enrollment are encouraged to reach out for additional information. For more details, scan QR code below or click on link here: https://www.cbc-psychology.com/events/social-skills-group

Mindfulness is often misunderstood as "emptying your mind." It is not about the absence of thoughts. It is not about becoming relaxed or reducing stress although it can do both. is about accepting how you feel in the present moment or allowing yourself to feel any emotion you feel without passing judgment. How does one do that? Notice and attend to your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations with compassion. Say to yourself, "I am noticing this thought" or "I'm noticing this feeling."
This helps you step back and observe yourself instead of getting caught up in what you think and how you feel.

Mindfulness can be practiced anywhere and anytime by focusing on your breath and/or becoming aware of your surroundings and how you react to them - while sitting at a traffic light, walking down the street, or even while washing dishes. Mindfulness, like any practice, is a skill you build with practice.

REGISTRATION is open for the 2026 CBT Comprehensive Training: https://www.cbc-psychology.com/events/cbt-5-day-comprehensive-2026

This intensive 5-day CBT training program was created in response to multiple requests from clinicians across the globe seeking a comprehensive workshop on cognitive and behavioral therapies. Now in its 13th year, this unique 5-day virtual workshop covers the essentials for conceptualizing and treating patients using cognitive and behavioral therapies across disorders and ages. Clinicians learn through a combination of didactics, videos, demonstrations and role plays during the workshop. Clinicians also have the opportunity to receive ongoing consultation following the training.

CBC is an approved CE provider by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CBC is also an approved CE provider by the New York State Education Department’s State Board of Social Work to sponsor continuing education for social workers. The CBT Comprehensive also provides you with the required hours of training in CBT needed to apply to become a Certified CBT Clinician through the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies.

Feedback from 2025 CBT-Comprehensive participants:
“The CBT Comprehensive experience was not only organized and well planned, but provided invaluable resources, demonstrations, and explanations to complicated CBT principles and strategies that increased my ability to practice and utilize CBT skills in my daily work”.

“I thoroughly enjoyed this training and learned far more than I anticipated. Dr. McGinn was extremely knowledgeable and professional. I feel comfortable implementing the teachings in my practice as a therapist. This training made me feel more confident as a clinician”.

“Grateful for the opportunity to get such a broad yet detailed overview of CBT, and how to implement the intervention effectively.”

On this , we underscore the importance of teenage mental wellness. The cost of developing anxiety, depression and other mental health problems during this turbulent stage of life has significant and long-lasting effects that last well into adulthood. We encourage parents and schools to have open conversations with teens to learn and address the mental health challenges they face.
Increased efforts to educate and issues and initiate prevention programs can alleviate the challenges our teens face on a daily basis and protect them from the ravages of mental illness in the future.

"Why do people engage in ?

Many people who self-harm do so when they struggle to cope with difficult emotions. They often feel and resort to physically injuring themselves in an effort to manage and control their mental distress. Common methods of self-harm include , , and .

While self-harm is not a mental health disorder, it is associated with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder ( ) and personality disorders. People who engage in self-harm often also have an underlying trauma or mental health condition.

Only about 50% of people who engage in self-harm seek help, and most often turn to a friend rather than to a professional. For self-harm awareness month this March, we at CBC recognize the prevalence of this behavior and want you to help us spread awareness. If you have the urge to self-harm, have engaged in self-harm or know someone who has, please reach out to a trained professional to learn how to manage and regulate emotions using CBT and DBT skills.
