It is with great sadness that we share that Sr. M. Lauren McLeod, the RDC Counseling Center’s first Executive Director, passed away peacefully April 1st, after a long illness.
Sr. Lauren, who had worked at Catholic Charities prior to its closing in 1991, was a founding member of the RDC Center for Counseling and Human Development.
Established to ensure the working poor in the White Plains area had access to mental health services, the RDC Center became a thriving practice, serving those in need for more than 30 years. Initiatives such as the Mother Daughter program to help Hispanic mothers and first generation American daughters understand one another and communicate better is among the specialized services started by Sr. Lauren.
She also collaborated with the principals at GCA Elementary, Our Lady of Sorrows and St. John the Baptist elementary schools to provide counseling to students.
Sr. Lauren stepped down as director in 2008 when she was elected to the RDC Congregational Leadership Team, but continued to see clients until her retirement in 2021.
Her warm smile, great sense of humor and compassionate presence put thousands of clients at ease as Sr Lauren helped them reach their goals in therapy.
