I am excited to be speaking at the inaugural Global Cannabis Regulatory Summit taking place in Washington, DC March 25-27.

This event will focus on the steps that have been taken around the globe to align regulatory bodies that normalize and globalize cannabis as a medicine. Regulators, government officials, and other key stakeholders from more than a dozen countries will be sharing lessons of success and failure learned in jurisdictions with more mature programs to inform more effective and impactful regulations in nations on the precipice of allowing cannabis for medicinal use. We'll be diving deep into the pharmacology, therapeutic applications, and emerging research around cannabinoids. From understanding the endocannabinoid system to exploring current clinical trials, this course prepares students for growing opportunities in medical research, pharmaceutical development, and healthcare policy.

It’s a chance to shine a light on our shared vision—a future where access to medical cannabis is grounded in rigorous research, underpinned by safety, and powered by education. We are leading this charge advancing forward-thinking policies, and ensuring that patient care is at the forefront of everything we do.
⭐️This is about more than just cannabis. It’s about empowering people with the tools, knowledge, and access they need to reclaim their health, well-being, and future. 🚀Together, we can challenge the limits of our understanding, break new ground, and ensure that every patient who can benefit from cannabis has that chance. ⚕️As the Chief Medical Officer of and a mom of two teens, I have a unique perspective on our latest study detailing the frequency and rate of teen and young adult cannabis patients in the U.S. Our findings reveal that anxiety (40.58%) is the primary medical condition for which young patients use medical cannabis, followed by chronic pain (14.87%) and insomnia (9.8%). Additionally, 34.38% of those surveyed use medical cannabis to treat two conditions, while 20.98% use it to treat three conditions.

✴️I understand that some degree of anxiety is normal and can even be beneficial, helping our kids grow and face challenges. Adolescence naturally brings increased anxiety due to developmental changes and social pressures. Teaching effective coping mechanisms, promoting open communication, and balancing independence with support are crucial. It’s also essential to recognize signs of toxic anxiety and seek professional help when necessary to ensure teens get the support they need.

✴️These insights underscore the potential role of medical cannabis and CBD in a comprehensive approach to managing anxiety and other conditions in teens and young adults. To address the trend of self-medication, it’s vital to incorporate harm reduction and education into our strategy.

✴️Bringing in an integrative medical team will ensure safe, informed, and effective use of cannabis. By providing education on the responsible use of cannabis and focusing on harm reduction, we can offer holistic care that includes teaching effective coping mechanisms, promoting open communication, and balancing independence with support, ensuring teens receive the comprehensive care they need to thrive.
