Balanced Speech Therapy offers private speech therapy for children and adults via teletherapy in Ver

Services are provided via teletherapy to Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. In person services are provided in the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont as well as the Dartmouth-Sunapee region including Hanover, Lebanon, White River Junction, Sunapee, New London, Springfield, Enfield, Grantham and Croydon.

Getting your child evaluated early is so important in helping them catch up and function at their optimal level!

Late talkers and children with more severe delays and disorders often present the exact same way! It may be limited use of gestures at 16 months, it may be less than 50 words the day they turn two, it may be frustration over not being able to communicate, but there is no way to tell the difference between a toddler who will catch up on their own and one who won't. The BEST thing you can do as a parent is get your child evaluated as soon as you notice they may not be using and understanding language in a way that is developmentally expected.

Is it really a "speech delay?"

Often times parents, educators, and pediatricians refer children for speech evals when they actually have concerns about language, not speech!

Two year old not talking? That's a language delay!
Five year old saying things like "Him is running" or "Me go next?" That's a language delay!
Six year old not able to tell a story with a beginning, middle, and end and/or in the right order? That's a language delay!

At the end of the day, we don't care what you call it, we just want you to get your child evaluated as soon as you notice some skills may be lagging!

It really cant be said enough that childhood speech and language delays should be addressed as soon as possible!

Give your child the best start in life by investigating any suspected delays.

Everyone wants their baby to start talking but there are skills that babies need to master before they start talking!

As SLPs, we see lots of late talkers whose parents are trying desperately to get them to name pictures in books, people, ans toys but if they dont have the foundation you can't build the house!
