âOnly massaging the area that youâre having pain.â
More often than not, where your pain is, isnât where itâs stemming from! When one area is injured or sore, other muscles step in to help (aka âcompensatingâ), and they can get tight or overworked. Treating those spots helps everything work together again. For example, if your low back is hurting, itâs probably because your hips or legs are tight/overworked.
âLight pressure massages are less effective than deep tissue massages.â
It doesnât have to hurt to work. If the pressure is too intense, your body may tense up to âprotectâ itselfâundoing the work. Light pressure can be just as beneficial as deep pressure.
âYou have to come weekly for massage to work.â
You donât have to be on a weekly massage subscription for it to âworkââbut frequency does change the kind of results you get. A single massage session can reduce pain, improve mobility, boost mood, and even lower stress. Think of it like working out or learning a new skill- you get more lasting change with repetition. Some people benefit most from weekly sessions, but others do great every with 2-8 weeks in between sessions. The sweet spot depends on your goals, budget, and how your body responds.
âEveryone receives the same kind of massage.â
One of my favorite things about Massage Therapy is how customizable it is! I have given thousands and thousands of massages and Iâve never done 2 massages the same. Itâs not a one size fits all- you get to decide the pressure, areas of work, etc.
âMassage Therapy replaces doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists.â
Massage Therapy is a great tool but it will never replace the need for other practitioners! Massage Therapy pairs beautifully with medical care, physical therapy, and chiropractic adjustments by supporting muscle balance, improving circulation, and reducing stress. Iâm the first to refer out if needed.
