The things we tell ourselves matter more than we realize. Every “I can’t,” “this is too hard,” or “this is just who I am” becomes an instruction the mind does its best to follow.

That’s why it can feel impossible to think your way into positive self-talk. The mind has a built-in filter that rejects what doesn’t match the story it already believes. So when you say “I’m confident” but the old belief is still there, it feels false, and your mind pushes back.

The good news is, there’s a simple way to open that filter. Two words that move that old negative self-talk into the past and create space for something new: "used to".

“I used to be afraid of this.”
“I used to think I wasn’t good enough.”
“I used to believe I couldn’t change.”

The moment we add those words, the story shifts from absolute to flexible. The past stays where it belongs, and the future opens up.

Most people think that once the feelings of anxiety start there's nothing they can do but ride it out. But that’s just not true.

And trying to catch it before it starts? That rarely works either. The mind moves fast. It has us reacting to things even before we realize what triggered those feelings.

That’s why hypnotic tools like pattern interrupts work so well. They don’t require you to be calm first. They create just enough space between us and our thoughts so that we can choose what to do next.

One small interruption, like a deep breath, changing your position, or counting by threes, can get your mind out of the anxiety loop and give you a chance to change direction.

I was halfway through pouring coffee when my phone chimed. Message from my ex-husband.

And just like that, my whole body reacted. Heart pounding. Brain spiraling. I was already running through worst-case scenarios and figuring out how to protect myself.

I hadn’t even read the message yet.

That’s how anxiety works. It doesn’t wait for proof. It runs the pattern it already knows.

But patterns can be interrupted. And that moment of space is where everything starts to change.

I used to think hypnosis wouldn’t work for me.

I thought I needed to be relaxed, be able to clear my mind, and definitely not be stubborn.

But then I experienced it.

I was alert the whole time, clear and in control. Just more open to doing the things I already wanted to do.

And afterward, I felt energized and refreshed, like stepping into fresh air after being in a stuffy room.

Turns out, hypnosis isn’t about “being hypnotized.”
It’s your mind getting better instructions so you can make the changes that matter to you.

The Monday Problem

It’s wild how much a single expectation can shape a day.

You think it’s going to be awful… and then it is. Your mind starts looking for proof before your feet even hit the floor.

That used to be me. Mondays were already going wrong in my head before I even got out of bed.

By the time I was dressed, I’d already run through everything that might go sideways. And somehow, the day always managed to turn out just how I expected.
