The Somatics of Language: How Words Land in the Body

In this class, we will explore the deep connection between
language and the body. Through poetry, spoken word, and personal mantras,
we’ll attune to how words resonate within us—how they move through our
nervous systems and leave traces of meaning, memory, and emotion. Language,
when fully felt, has the power to heal us from within.

What does it mean to *feel* language? Beyond speaking and listening, we
also experience words physically—through sensation, breath, and emotion.
This somatic approach to language invites us to engage with both our
delightful and difficult stories in a new, embodied way. By doing so, we
can develop tools supporting our natural resilience and restoration capacity.

We’ll begin by cultivating safety through gentle, embodied meditation and
then follow what arises using simple somatic practices and breathwork.
There will be space to share poetry, phrases, and reflections, and witness each
others’ stories, and offer support within a compassionate and respectful
community.

This workshop is open to everyone—no prior experience needed.

Limited space

Perfect for anyone wanting to increase mobility and flow, wanting to explore how to move in ways that feel nourishing, or wishing to return to movement without the focus on classical techniques.

Sample class:

Breathwork

Gentle floor-based movement patterns encourage strength through stability and flow through release. ( Inspired by dance, yoga, pilates, physical and dance therapy principles)

Moving through space- movement patterns through space. This will be self-paced. We will workshop what feels good in the body.

Grounding and quieting

May include some time for reflection through writing and optional sharing.

This class offers a unique opportunity to embrace the inherent kinesthetic joy of being in your body—just as it is. Together, we’ll explore natural movement patterns that emerge from our biomechanics and sensory systems, engaging with gravity and the elegant principles of physics. Designed to be accessible to all and to feel like a dance or a moving meditation, the class incorporates neurodevelopmental movement patterns and somatic practices, including Body-Mind Centering and Laban-Bartenieff Fundamentals. Through playful and engaging exercises, we’ll cultivate a deeper connection to ourselves, our environment, and each other.

Finding ease and grace in the mind and body is accessible to all. Through gentle movement and mindfulness practices, we will explore tools that settle the nervous system, bring ease and efficiency to our movement, and discover our own agency in integrating practices that sustain our well-being. Somatics is a field of movement studies and bodywork that foregrounds the body's internal physical sensations, perceptions, and experiences. Through somatic practices, one can listen to the body's inherent wisdom. We tap into the subtle body supported by our sensory system and inner awareness. The body is honored not as a performative tool but as a gateway to the present moment and a holder of stories, both difficult and delightful, that can, when explored, cultivate a path toward living with ease and authenticity.
There are many modalities for this work. Kate's work utilizes embodied meditation, guided breath, and natural movement practices, allowing us to drop into what is held in the body. She offers a supported touch to enhance the inner experience. There is a collaborative development of somatic practices that can be incorporated into daily life and practiced independently. Her work deeply respects the pace and process of the participant and is trauma-informed.
