Truly, it’s ok to be nervous about starting therapy. I talk to a lot of new clients about this in consultations. No matter the reason for the anxiety about it, we’re here to help you manage that. If you’re having a rough time right now - you’re not alone.

It’s a very scary time for a lot of people, and it can be hard to find a balance of staying informed that is within your capacity and tolerance, especially if you’re a parent and needing to explain things to kids also. There isn’t a perfect answer, it’s going to be a little different for everyone. Use these tips to work out what’s right for you.

Remember, the point of finding ways to cope isn’t to ignore what is happening or convince yourself that things are fine.

The point is to have enough capacity to continue to do the things you want and need to do in your life: work, care for children or other family, hopefully find some enjoyment, and continue to work toward what you want and believe in.

It’s easy to take things personally when someone’s choices look different from ours. But most of the time, it’s not about us at all. We’re all just trying to make the best decisions we can with what we know, need, and value.

You can honor your choices without needing others to agree. You can let others choose differently without making it mean anything about you.
