PSA: Your insurance company isn’t going to text you: “Hey, your anesthesiologist is out-of-network.” Why? Because confusion = higher bills and more denied claims. The burden to verify is on you.

How to beat the game:

Call the number on your card + the clinic: “Are the facility AND the provider in-network for my exact plan?”
👉 Ask for CPT codes and request a cost estimate.
👉 Confirm any add-ons (labs, imaging, anesthesia) are in-network too.
👉 Get names + confirmations via email (paper trail = power).
👉 If OON, ask for cash rate or the closest in-network alternative.

Bottom line: If they won’t proactively tell you, you can still proactively ask. Your wallet will thank you. 💸

In-Network vs Out-of-Network
In-network = happy hour menu. Pre-negotiated rates → predictable bills.
Out-of-network = à la carte. Higher charges + possible balance bill.

Before you book, ask:

👉 “Are you in-network for my exact plan?”
👉 “What will I owe today (copay/deductible/coinsurance)?”
👉 “Are the facility AND the provider in-network?”
👉 “Is there an in-network alternative nearby?”
👉 “What’s the cash rate if I pay today?”

Pro tips:
• A referral ≠ in-network — always confirm.
• Labs/imaging/anesthesia can bill separately — verify each.
• ER at an in-network hospital can still use OON clinicians.
• Ask for the CPT code and call your plan for an estimate.
