We didn’t know what to expect with an accelerated 8-day MeRT protocol. The usual treatment is over 6 weeks but some studies showed improvements in 8 days so we decided to try.
I was surprised when the repeat qEEG showed minor changes.
Kids with ADHD and executive function delay can become anxious, are slow to process information, become easily overwhelmed, and are unable to stay focused enough to complete a given task. Memory is not usually an issue.
For example, if a teacher gives several steps for kids to follow, an ADHD child may finally understand the first step by the time the teacher has given 3 more, but since he is slow to process, he has missed the subsequent steps.
So how did that EEG change translate into behavioral change?
For us, it meant less difficulty with transitions and making decisions. When asked to turn off the TV, it was turned off within a minute without the usual frustration and anger. When given a choice of things he wanted, he made a decision and was happy with it. There was no ruminating over whether he made the right decision. He told me he was happy with his decision and thought it was the easiest ever made.
In the past week, we’ve seen other improvements like following through on commands and self-initiative like hanging clothing in the closet at the end of the day or putting something back on the shelf in the closet when he’s finished with it. He is also eating more which I am assuming is because he can concentrate while talking to other kids at school.
Things aren’t perfect, but there are definite improvements after the 8-day accelerated protocol.
With the above changes in 8 days, I’m confident 6 weeks of MeRT would benefit him more.
Don’t hesitate to message me if you’re interested in a qEEG analysis to see if MeRT would benefit you.
