Day 1 completed of Visceral Vascular Mobilization for the upper body. I have been looking forward to this class for so many reasons.

1. So many people are stiff in their rib cage and treating visceral (organ) restrictions and any restrictions related to the blood flow of the viscera can be huge in improving rib cage mobility, neck pain, pelvic pain, digestions and many other issues m.
2. In the visceral hierarchy, the function of the heart and lungs is king and the body will create a posture that support their function which can cause musculoskeletal symptoms anywhere in the body
3. In my own journey detoxing from mold, viscera work in my rib cage has made a massive improvement in my breathing and hip/ pelvic mobility and pain (YES I said my hips and pelvis). I'm so excited to have another layer of treatment for my own body and knowledge for my clients.
4. Visceral mobilization rocks and all humans would benefit from it!

What a fun learning weekend with . I’m walking away with a new and exciting way of evaluating the body to determine what its priority is for treatment: visceral, neural, vascular, central nervous system, or mechanic restrictions.

This has been such an exciting phase in my career, honing in on skills that help me ask and listen to what the body in front of me wants treated instead of forcing my own agenda.

How beautiful it is that our bodies are so knowledgable in what they need to heal and all we need is to step aside and let them do the talking. What an honor to be a part of this amazing and awe inspiring process 💕

Nothing fills my heart more than getting time solo with these three. We loved doing all the Seattley things and there is absolutely nothing better than exploring the world through my kids’s eyes.

Now…off for a weekend in the dissection lab. This visceral dissection class has been on my list for YEARS. I am beyond excited to review my anatomy, delve into a greater depth of knowledge of the body’s intricacies, and deepen my palpations skills.

What a gift to have spent the last 14 years touching bodies and to be able to go back to explore human anatomy through a different lens. I’m so grateful for those who donate their bodies to science so I can give the best care to my clients.

This post goes out to all the pregnant mamas out there 💕

Let’s talk about the rib cage and why it is such an integral part of treatment in preparation for birth

1) As the uterus grows and organs get “rearranged” the rib cage can start to become limited in motion which can impact the overall ability for these organs to function AND limit efficient breathing.  Treatment of the organ system is not advised while pregnant, but treating the rib cage and the surrounding soft tissues can allow more space for organ function and a better ability to breathe.
2) The diaphragm is an integral part of core function.  Maintaining the ability for the diaphragm to coordinate with the pelvic floor and transverse abdominus can help with low back pain, pelvic pain and incontinence during pregnancy.
3) The efficiency of the rib cage contributes to the space baby has to sit in the pelvis during pregnancy and space baby has during labor and birth to makes its way out of the vaginal canal (more wiggle room is always better 🤗)
4) The diaphragm is an important muscle to have access to for pushing and thus the rib cage must be sufficient to allow access to the diaphragm for better pushing.

Cheers to smoother births 🎉

Dear Whitefish,

Words cannot express how honored I am to be voted Best Physical Therapist and Best Physical Therapy Clinic in Whitefish.

When I was in school, I swore I would never be a business owner. But as I started early in my career I was drawn to wanting so much more for my patients than I knew I could give them in the traditional clinical settings I started in. The Body Mechanic has been truly a dream come true.

I dove into Functional Manual Therapy early in my career to better understand how to treat the body as an integrated system. My interest and craving for depth and knowledge in treating the body as a whole has only grow from there.

I am grateful for the classes I have gotten to take and all my clients who have entrusted me with your care. I truly learn so much from each and every one of you and I feel so blessed to be a part of this amazing community.

What does your pelvic floor need?!?

Pelvic floor therapy has become a very big buzz word over the last couple of years.  I love that it has because I think so many more women are seeking treatment after birth for prevention of future issues and seeking treatment for issues that have been deemed normal like leakage, prolapse and pain with in*******se.

I am posting as a reminder that when pelvic issues arise, treatment of the pelvic floor itself is often essential BUT the pelvic floor (like everything) is a part of the whole body.

Common areas of the body that can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction
-The rib cage including the ribs themselves, the diaphragm, the thoracic spine and fascial restrictions of the organs in the rib cage like the liver, stomach, spleen, lungs and heart
-Abdominal organs like the small intestines and large intestine
Pelvic organs like the bladder, uterus, re**um
-Hips
-Knees
-Feet
-Cranium
-Every other part of the body :)

So the moral of the story is that pelvic dysfunction likely has a local component but also a distant component that is impacting it.  All of it needs to be addressed. What needs to be addressed in your body depends on your history and your body’s story 💕

What’s your favorite body part to treat?

A very common question during a treatment session. I really love treating any part of the body. However, my favorite part about treating the body is honing in on what body part or parts need to be treated to make the MOST impact in the person’s body I am treating.

Sometimes it’s straight forward like cranial and C1 restrictions causing headaches and limitations in neck motion. Other times it’s more complex like restrictions through the uterus and ovaries driving mid-back tension.

Everyday I stand in awe of how restrictions come about in the body, how they manifest in each individual, and how much change treating what is truly driving a system and make massive changes in the entire body.

SO MUCH FUN!!

Coming off of an amazing weekend focused on cranial nerve manipulation.

The intricacy of the neural, fascial and bony structure in the cranium are utterly amazing. These nerves weave through facia and intertwine with each other to help with sight, hearing, balance, smell, facial expression and even organ function 🤯.

My favorite technique of the weekend (not pictured): Mobilization of the OPTIC nerve through the eyeball. Sounds a little daunting but so gentle and crazy effective for not only things like

-Migraines
-Problems with the eye
-Sinus issues

But also…

-ADD and dyslexia (helps with eye focus)
-Hormones (the optic nerve has facial connections to the pituitary gland which is a big hormone gland)
-Resting heart rate and blood pressure (this nerve has connection with the reflex for changes in heart rate and blood pressure).

See….utterly AMAZING!!!

Highlight of the weekend: getting to be in a classroom full of inspired practitioners who love the body as much as I do 🎉

This little lady has had breathing issues since last September.  Everytime she gets a cold or is exposed to some sort of allergen we have to dose her with steroids for a couple of days to prevent her from making a trip to the ER 😓 I had been reassured by the allergist and her pediatrician that this can be common in kids and she would likely grow out of it but for the time being need to continue using steroid every time she got a cold. I felt there had to be more my daughter’s story and really didn’t want her to have to use steroids long term.

This last week was the 1st time in over a year, my daughter did not have to have any steroid intervention to get through a cold!! 🎉Ultimately what we believe was happening was a mold exposure in our house that really tanked her immune system.  We have been out of our house for 5 months and have been treating her for mold for a little over a month and things are finally shifting for our sweet girl.💕

I post this not to poo poo any of the help we have had moving through the acute part of this situation but to inspire you to look further if your gut says there is something deeper or bigger that needs to be addressed in your health journey.

I am so grateful to have met and been working with . She was the one who suggested we look for mold at our house and has literally transformed my families health and wellbeing.

This valley is full of amazing practitioners that want to help you find the “why”. Trust your gut if something with your health journey is not sitting right with you. I’m so thankful we did!!
