What is fascia, and why is it SO important?
The fascial system is the three-dimensional network of collagen-containing fibrous tissues that permeate the body.
Fascia is largely made up of collagen, which, gram for gram, is stronger than the steel used to build skyscrapers. It has great tensile strength AND has great flexibility
You can think of Fascia as your soft skeleton, suspending your hard skeleton and connecting EVERYTHING!
"The fascial system surrounds, interweaves between, and interpenetrates ALL organs, muscles, bones, and nerve fibers," allowing all body systems to communicate and operate in an integrated manner. Fascia is like a communication superhighway within the body!
Healthy fascia can glide and stretch; it is resilient and can withstand great stress. Fascia has everything to do with our posture, the way we move, the way we feel and experience pain, and communication within the body.
Keeping your fascia hydrated and healthy is the key to being able to move freely without pain!
How do you keep the fascia healthy?
*Hydrate
*Stretch regularly
*Yin Yoga
*Regular movement - avoid sitting for prolonged periods!
*Deep breathing
*Get regular bodywork like Bowenwork or massage
