A little different post about driving and my kid…
-
For those who don’t know, I’m a mother of two teen girls. For as much time and attention I give to MBL, they are my main priority and my “why”.
-
As a mother, I want to raise competent, confident, and kind young women.
-
Our school district does not offer drivers education so it’s left to the parents to teach (which is really awful!!)
-
Today we spent the day with for the 2nd time. I highly recommend this class for anyone with a new driver. My older daughter took it 2 years ago and both times I have walked away so grateful for this class!
-
There were only 7 students, but over 20 volunteers. Each student is paired with a knowledgeable coach who is comfortable “pushing” the kids comfort with breaking, turning, veering, and unpredictably.
-
When I coach, I can see someone feels out of their comfort and I know their weight is safe or they can go faster and still be ok. It’s my job to push when appropriate and let them feel “their new boundary”.
-
It was very much the same today. Pushing the limit with my child in her Jeep is WAY out of my comfort zone. But Tom, her instructor, was able to push her when appropriate and give guidance as needed. He was able to guide her so she could test herself, and her car’s limits, while remaining safe.
-
So if you’ve read this far, and know someone who is a new driver or will be before October, I highly recommend signing up for their next class in Rome in October! It is well worth it!!
-
And…this video…is me in the back seat of my kid’s 2 door Jeep! That’s love and trust!!!🙈
