In the early days postpartum, your body is doing important groundwork for milk supply 🤍

🧠 Prolactin receptor sites are being established in the first days and weeks after birth.
Each effective milk removal — nursing or pumping — helps build and “set” these receptors, which play a key role in long-term milk production.

👶 This is also why babies have a high need to suck early on.
Frequent feeding isn’t a sign of low milk — it’s often your baby’s biologically normal way of helping your body build supply.

✨ What this can look like:
• Frequent feeds or cluster feeding
• Wanting to nurse again shortly after a feed
• Comfort sucking paired with milk transfer

🤍 What matters most:
• Effective latch and milk removal
• Feeding on cue, especially early on
• Support when feeding feels painful or inefficient

These early days are not about perfection — they’re about connection, communication, and laying a strong foundation. With the right support, your body and baby can work together beautifully.

When a baby starts life in the NICU, feeding often needs extra layers of support and early intervention matters. 🤍 So grateful to be part of this family’s journey through oral ties, bodywork, and healing.

If your baby has been in the NICU and feeding feels harder than expected—you’re not behind. With the right support, progress is possible.

Breastfeeding invites comparison so quickly —
How much milk. How often. How long. How “easy” it looks for someone else 🤍

But God didn’t design your feeding journey to look like anyone else’s.

Your body. Your baby. Your beginning.
Let go of comparison.

Trust the grace that’s guiding this gentle beginning.

Low milk supply is one of the most common worries I hear — and it’s often more complex than it seems.

✨ Common contributors to low supply:
• Infrequent or short feeds
• Shallow latch or ineffective milk removal
• Early supplementation or missed pumping sessions
• Hormonal shifts, blood loss, or medical conditions

🤍 Realistic expectations:
– Milk supply builds gradually in the first week
– Colostrum volumes are small but powerful
– Babies often cluster feed to help increase supply

If you’re worried about supply, you’re not failing — you’re navigating a learning season. With the right support, many supply concerns can improve.

Save this for later or share with a new mama who needs reassurance. 🤍

“Patients should be supported to breastfeed immediately before surgery, preferably directly, or by expressing if that is their preference. Patients should be supported to resume breastfeeding after the procedure once they are alert, orientated and able to feed their child or express independently.”

Download and save these 2026 guidelines for the use of anesthesia in breastfeeding mothers. The amazing support these guidelines reflect for lactation signals we’ve definitely come a long way.

A subtle change in positioning, latch, or support can turn feeding from stressful to sustainable.

A few quick tips:
1. Make sure baby is fully supported — against your body or with pillows
2. Lead with baby’s chin when latching
3. Gently bring baby in at the base of the neck/shoulders to allow the head to tip back slightly for a deeper latch

You don’t need to start over — sometimes you just need a little guidance.

Pump fl**ge size matters more than most parents realize 🤍

Using the right size can mean:
• Better milk flow
• No more pain
• More comfortable & efficient pumping sessions

✨ Quick basics:
– Your ni**le should gently glide in the tunnel
– Ar**la should not be pulled in
– Pain, blanching, or swelling = size likely off

And remember — ni**le size can change postpartum, so a size that worked before may not work now.

If pumping feels uncomfortable or inefficient, fl**ge sizing is one of the first things I check as a lactation consultant. Support makes a difference 🤍

Save this for later or send to a pumping parent who needs it.
