National Promise to Care Day!

The National Promise to Care Day is observed annually on August 1 in the U.S. The holiday reminds urgent care centers about their promises to communities. It also honors the work of urgent care center workers and their dedication to their patients and their communities.
Health care workers promise to be compassionate, empathetic, appreciative, respectful, and ethical to ensure they’re serving their communities to the best of their ability. Yet, most of the time, we are unable to understand the actual responsibilities of U.C.C. workers. However, the National Promise to Care Day offers an opportunity for people to honor the work and efforts taken by health care workers to ensure the health and safety of people in their care. The holiday also facilitates the spread of information about U.C.Cs.

International Day of Friendship!

International Day of Friendship was designated by the United Nations General Assembly (U.N.). On July 30, we step back and get thankful for these relationships worldwide, as they promote and encourage peace, happiness, and unity. The U.N. encourages governments, community groups, and other organizations to coordinate activities and events that celebrate the friendships that we keep close to us. Many events focus on reconciliation, bridging understanding and consensus, and finding comfort in those friendships that feel like home. Its important to wish them their birthday as well, Check out 100 Birthday Wishes for Your Best Friend.
We live in a tough world. Between miscommunications, mistreatment, lack of trust, discrimination, and cultural discord, prioritizing peace seemingly has less of a presence in the global society. There really is no reason for the world not to exist in some harmonious form. We have the United Nations to thank for helping to remind us all that there is some good in this world. We were first introduced to International Day of Friendship in 2011; this special day goes beyond connecting people and builds bridges among cultures, countries, and even ideologies.
Friendship and connections are synonymous with bonding, and building those common bonds goes beyond sharing a trait, characteristic, or favorite pastime with another person or group, but also includes promoting a global commitment and understanding of diversity and inclusion. Even in our differences, we can find common ground. Physical appearances, differences of opinions, political views, tastes, music, and more are not reasons to separate people. Relationships are bigger than that, and the UN works to promote kindness and togetherness every July.
Celebrating friendships through things as simple as a brief note, a coffee hang out, going to a concert, or taking a trip to the mall are all ways to find commonalities. Again, we have more in common than we all realize. And any idea that minimizes the amount of hatred and disdain spread throughout the world is the kind we want to be shared. We’d like to think that something we all have in common.

National Chicken Wing Day!

Waterfalls of ranch dressing? Check. Gobs of blue cheese? Check. Napkins? Check. An insatiable hunger for the ultimate party food, complete with a willingness to eat far beyond your comfort level? Definitely! Well then, you’re ready to take on National Chicken Wing Day on July 29. Oh, and don’t forget the full bottle of antacids.

Originally relegated to the far corners of the kitchen as material for chicken stock, chicken wings were born when the owners of the Anchor Bar in Buffalo cooked up a midnight snack for their son and his friends. Using only fried wings, butter, and hot sauce, they stumbled on a dish that would change American game day gastronomy forever. So this July 29, make them sweet, spicy or any way you want, but raise a glass and down a few wings to celebrate.

Note: We can thank previous Buffalo mayor, Stan Makowski, for giving us one of the most celebrated food holidays of the summer.

Invite your friends to try out their creative side by cooking up a chicken wing dish other than buffalo. Create a list for everyone to fill in so there are no doubles, then chow down as you try an assortment of out-there, oddball, yet still delectable wings.

Happy Milk Chocolate Day!

Calling all chocolate lovers! National Milk Chocolate Day is celebrated annually on July 28. When solid chocolate is combined with either powdered, liquid or condensed milk; it’s known as milk chocolate. Milk chocolate is the most popular member of the chocolate family and with good reason. It’s creamy, smooth and mostly used in candy bars. It is believed that in the mid-1800s, milk chocolate was first created as a beverage in Germany. The first milk chocolate, in the form of a bar that we all recognize today, was created by Swiss chocolatier Daniel Peter while collaborating with Henri Nestlé, the founder of his Nestlé chocolate company. So if you’re a true chocoholic, get ready to celebrate all things milk chocolate!
We all know you can eat the sweet treat but did you know there are other uses for it, too? Milk chocolate is sometimes used in products for hair and skin care because it contains little-known ingredients that are beneficial to your skin. The level of antioxidant compounds in cocoa is higher than that of green tea, black tea or red wine.

World Hepatitis Day!

World Hepatitis Day is a public health holiday held each year to raise awareness about hepatitis, a group of infectious diseases that attack the liver and affect people all over the globe. The day also promotes testing and prevention for all five types of the disease: A, B, C, D and E. The World Hepatitis Alliance established this day in 2008 but did you know it was originally held on May 19? The date moved to July 28 in 2010 after the World Health Assembly decided to commemorate the birthday of Baruch Samuel Blumberg, an American physician who discovered hepatitis B in the Sixties, eventually winning a Nobel Prize for his work on the virus and its vaccine.
Get tested on World Hepatitis Day because you may be unaware that you're infected. It’s a simple blood test that you can take at your doctor’s office or at your neighborhood health center. After you're tested, encourage your friends and family to do the same.
Tons of health organizations and affiliates raise awareness about the virus with events on World Hepatitis Day, July 28. Attend concerts, rallies, pop-up testings and more. Search the World Hepatitis Day website to find an event near you.
If you can’t find an event near you, no problem! Take the initiative to host a fundraising run/walk, happy hour or a meal. The World Hepatitis Day site has campaign materials, toolkits, and other resources you can download. So, let's get this party started!

National Bagelfest Day!

National Bagelfest Day is celebrated on July 26 to recognize the scrumptious bread that is light and tasty. Yes, not everyone likes the mass-produced bread available at stores, and would rather resort to a fresh bagel, baked at a bakery. Did you know the bagel is the only bread that is boiled before being baked? Well, it’s facts like these and more that National Bagelfest Day is all about. All you need is an empty stomach, caffeine, and an endless interest in bagels.
A fun day to eat bagels
If you decide to check out different bagel places with your friends, this day could turn out to be extremely fun.

Happy Casual Pi Day!

The world celebrates Pi Approximation Day every year on 22 July. The fraction 22/7 is an approximate value of Pi, and it is for this reason that this day is commemorated on July 22. In this case, the numerator 22 represents the date, while the numerator seven represents the month.

The number, ‘Pi,’ is defined as the circumference to diameter ratio of a circle and is approximately equal to 3.14159. If you plug the numbers into your calculator, you’ll notice that 22 divided by 7 provides an infinite variety of answers. The digits continue indefinitely. That is why Pi is regarded as an approximation, and therefore the rationale for today.

Happy National Hot Dog Day!

When we think of summer, hot dogs come to mind almost immediately. It’s just part of the overall experience. A summer day at the amusement park or at a baseball stadium pairs nicely with a hot dog (or tofu dog, for those of you who prefer a meatless version). Hot dogs don’t have to be made with meat, and anyone can enjoy the age old American favorite food any time of year. Sure, hot dogs can be purchased and enjoyed at any time of the year, however on July 20 is absolutely the day we hold them in the highest regard.
Did you know that you can celebrate National Hot Dog Day with a party? Yes, it is true. Throw a festival or a small-level soiree with your favorite hot dog. You already know that we like a good party, so throwing one in honor of our favorite foods is an idea we absolutely endorse.
