Since 1971, Helpline Youth Counseling (HYC) has worked to fulfill its mission of serving youth and families by promoting the development of strong individuals and families in the Southeast Los Angeles and Long Beach communities. Our agency is recognized throughout Los Angeles County and the surrounding area for our expertise with child abuse and neglect, family and domestic violence, gang involvement, juvenile delinquency, and substance abuse. Helpline Youth Counseling has consistently employed a strength-based service strategy to assist clients in recognizing and building upon their personal assets while moving toward realizing their life goals despite the challenges they face. HYC prioritizes prevention and early intervention programs and has always taken a whole family approach to build individual and community strengths. Helpline Youth Counseling programs are designed to reinforce protective factors within families and empower our clients to change their lives in sustainable ways by developing their skills, support networks and access to resources, and in turn increase overall community health and well-being. Helpline Youth Counseling fulfills our agency mission of promoting the development of strong individuals and families in the community by providing counseling, assistance and support services to children, adolescents and families. In addition to prevention and early intervention programs, HYC also provides access to vital resources such as healthcare, financial counseling, tax preparation assistance, housing support, parenting classes, and youth leadership development. HYC programs are designed to identify and build upon individual and family strengths while reinforcing protective factors within families. Moreover, our agency programs are designed to help our clients avert serious life crises and the need for emergency interventions (such as child removal) by agencies including Department of Children and Family Services, the Department of Public Social Services and the Department of Probation. Helpline Youth Counseling helps clients in building the necessary tools and skills to maintain family stability and create brighter futures.

Our first Lunch and Learn series event was today! Thanks to donors, sponsors, Board members, staff and friends who attended to hear our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) graduates talk about this amazing program. If you’d like to join us for the November Lunch and Learn, which will focus on our Pathway Home project to help homeless people, contact Tracy at twallace@hycinc.org. We are proud to announce that our headquarters at Liberty Community Plaza now includes two parking spots reserved for our Purple Heart Veterans.

Not only is Liberty Community Plaza a home for our community and our headquarters, it is also a space to recognize and serve our local veterans.

The front of our building facing Telegraph Ave. features the Veteran Freedom Garden and Veteran Memorial Bricks.

Veterans Affairs and the Veterans Peer Access Network have office hours at our plaza to assist our local veterans with their benefits.

We also host the El Camino GI Forum, an independent veterans group active in the area.
