🛠️ LABOR DAY

Today we honor the hard work it takes to care for families, communities, and even ourselves.

For some, this day is a chance to rest. For others, it’s another day of showing up and carrying responsibility.
Wherever you find yourself, know that your effort matters; and so does your need for care.

Take a quiet moment today to reflect and write:

✍️ Where have you seen God’s light in your life; especially in moments that felt dark or uncertain?

It doesn’t have to be a long story. It could be a single sentence, a memory, or even a prayer.
Sometimes putting words to these moments is how we remind ourselves that we’ve never truly been alone.

Trauma isn’t “all in your head.” Your nervous system remembers, and sometimes it gets stuck in survival mode.

That’s why therapy helps you:
- Learn how to calm the body when it’s on high alert
- Rebuild trust in yourself and others
- Develop tools to move from survival into safety

Healing isn’t about forgetting; it’s about helping your whole self find balance again.

Between school, work, sports, and everything in between, life can feel like a constant rush. Parents and kids alike carry that stress.

Here are a few techniques to keep things steady:

Create a “transition routine” (a 5-minute breather between school and homework, or work and dinner).

Keep one calming activity in the schedule, even if it’s just reading or stretching before bed.

Model regulation; show your child how you pause, breathe, and reset when things feel too busy.

You don’t need perfect balance. What matters most is showing your family that pause is possible.

Setting boundaries doesn’t make you difficult; it makes you healthy.
If you’ve been through trauma, saying “no” can feel uncomfortable at first, but it’s an important part of protecting your peace.

When your emotions start running the show, it can feel overwhelming.
That’s why self-regulation matters; it’s how you help your mind and body return to a place of calm.

A few gentle ways to practice today:

Place your hand over your heart and focus on your heartbeat

Take slow breaths, making the exhale longer than the inhale

Use gentle movement; roll your shoulders, stretch your arms, sway side to side

Listen to a song that feels steady and comforting

Hold something with texture and notice the details

You don’t have to “get it perfect.” Regulation is about giving yourself a moment to feel safe again.

🥹🥹🥹 Thank you!

As the new school year begins and our community settles into fresh routines, I’ve been reflecting on LITD Trauma Counseling’s own “first year.” It feels a little like that moment when students return to class…you pause to see how much has changed, how much has been learned, and how much more there is to look forward to.

What began as just me in a new space with a big dream and heart full of hope, has grown into a team of three: two incredible clinicians, Irma and Mikki, who bring so much heart, skill, and compassion to the work we do.

Together, we’ve had the privilege of serving 118 clients and providing 1,762 sessions (and counting!). Nearly 10% of those sessions were offered pro bono to ensure our most vulnerable neighbors—those who might not otherwise have access to therapy—could still receive the care they deserve.

Our reach extends beyond the therapy room, too. We have MOUs with multiple nonprofits, and I’m honored to teach mental health classes weekly at three local organizations. We’ve been welcomed into this community in ways that have left me both humbled and inspired. And next year, I’ve been invited to speak at an international conference. It’s an incredible opportunity I’m deeply honored to get to do.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you—to our clients for trusting us, to our community partners for believing in collaboration, and to every person who has encouraged and supported this dream along the way. We are so honored to be a part of this community, and we are excited for what’s ahead.

Here’s to the future of LITD…And to continuing the work of bringing light into the darkest places.

With gratitude,

When your body feels tense or your mind is racing, it’s a sign your nervous system is asking for support; not judgment. You don’t have to push through it.

Instead, try something small that helps your body remember it’s safe:
• Place one hand over your heart and take a slow breath.
• Rock gently side to side; rhythm calms the body.
• Hum quietly or listen to calming music.
• Step outside and let your senses take in the moment (sunlight, breeze, stillness).

These tiny acts may feel simple, but they’re powerful. When your body begins to soften, your mind follows.

What we water, grows.
And our children bloom in the light of our attention…

Not the kind of attention that constantly corrects, critiques, or controls — but the kind that sees their effort, their progress, their heart.

Catch the moments when they TRY.
When they pause before reacting.
When they help without being asked.
When they’re kind. Creative. Curious.

Notice it. Name it.

Let them feel seen — not just for the big wins,
but for the quiet choices that often go unnoticed.
Let them feel seen in the places they’re growing,
not just where they’re falling short.

Because when a child is met with recognition instead of resistance, they don’t just behave differently — they begin to believe differently about who they are.

So start today — not by demanding more from them, but by seeing more of them.

And if you do that often enough,
you soon might just be amazed
by how much more there is to see. ❤️
