Dr. Rathbun had a reputation as a “hard” supervisor, and I was assigned to him only by special permission, at the recommendation of another supervisor who thought it was a good match. Marc was a fellow “grumpy old man” even 20 years ago, and I felt a kindred spirit, and admired him immensely. Also, he made me work really hard! - I learned so much from him. He was especially instrumental in helping restore my faith in psychotherapy, and helping me to discern good therapy - the kind that changes you! - from ineffective therapy. Because of him, I nearly had a first job at the (famous) Austin Riggs hospital in MA… which would have led me down a *very* different path. Marc was a great teacher and clinician and the world will be a little darker in his absence.

Warning!
This morning, several people have received notices from a program called Sharefile, telling them that I am sharing a file with them and to click-the-link to read the file.

I do not have a Sharefile account, and these messages are not coming from me.

We have always run New Leaf as an "inefficient" business, in which passion and concern for the community wins out over "I bet we could charge for that."

This was an interesting reflection - and warning - about a growing trend in healthcare as well as "business in general" :

Squeezing ‘inefficient’ businesses run for greater purpose will generate cash, but not value

Finally: an article that appears to be about sports - which is highly unusual for me! But the real point is about bias, and how people dismiss warning signs that they don't want to see in any "risk" scenario, and/or how people focus on convenient excuses and environmental factors when there are obvious 'cracks' in any system - in this case, the bodily system, but equally applicable to any risk assessment and/or any attempt to "read the warning signs" for some potential problem.

Tyrese Haliburton’s Achilles rupture wasn’t a freak injury—it followed a predictable pattern we’ve seen before.

Next up: a review of recent findings about the interaction between your intestines and your brain. I foresee some of these discoveries as having importance for both mitigation in criminal cases (related to my typical line of work) and also as highly important to new therapies to "mystery" conditions like IBS.

A rapid expansion of new discoveries and knowledge lays the foundation for a new era in medicine

So many good articles in the news today. First, on clean water - a public health issue that I care about personally:

For billions, it can mean hours spent collecting water. For almost a million, it means dying from disease.
