We have always run New Leaf as an "inefficient" business, in which passion and concern for the community wins out over "I bet we could charge for that."

Finally: an article that appears to be about sports - which is highly unusual for me! But the real point is about bias, and how people dismiss warning signs that they don't want to see in any "risk" scenario, and/or how people focus on convenient excuses and environmental factors when there are obvious 'cracks' in any system - in this case, the bodily system, but equally applicable to any risk assessment and/or any attempt to "read the warning signs" for some potential problem.
