March is National Kidney Month so here’s just some education on what that means!

What do your kidneys do?
•They filtrate waste and toxins out of your blood
•Balance your fluid and electrolytes
•Help regulate your blood pressure
•Help make red blood cells
•Balance your minerals to keep your bones healthy

What are kidney disease symptoms?
•fluid retention or swelling in legs, feet, and ankles
•Fatigue or weakness
•Shortness of breath
•Skin changes
•Urine changes
•Confusion
•nausea or vomiting
•Loss of appetite
•Muscle cramps
•High blood pressure

What can home health do to help your patient?
•Monitor weights due to fluid retention and collaborate with the patients P*P or urologist
•Monitor symptoms and collaborate with patients P*P or urologist
•Medication management- ensuring that the patient is taking their medications appropriately
•Medication reconciliation-ensuring that all medications are reviewed from all prescribers to find any contraindicating medications
•Diet education- ensuring patients know what diet is best for their disease process and help patients understand how to make those changes
•Keep your patient out of the hospital to the best of our abilities
•Draw labs to monitor kidney function as often as the physicians sees fit

Exciting news!! We now have behavioral health services for you or your loved ones. Whether it be that the patient has depression or anxiety and is having a lot of symptoms or that it is behaviors that are secondary to dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, etc, we would love to step in and help.
